So yes, post-Z we will all grab every box of every caliber we can find. That said, what are you people stockpiling? FMJ, JHP, Golden Sabers, Rangers, Hornady TAPs? Let's hear it for ammo! Do you find this valuable?

I stockpile whatever I can afford to get on a good deal at the time. As for my favorite ammo it is simple, I like Federal Hydra-Shok. Sure its not the newest round on the market but it is reliable and consistent with expansion.

Whatever I get, I am not really picky on ammo. Usually not FMJ because you can't hunt with it last I checked.

Is that some type of state law where you live?

Federal, I live in Canada, but hey, it's not like the round itself is illegal, I just can't use it to hunt, so I don't buy it.

When I get my Mosin, it all depends on how much I'm willing to spend at the time. Wolf will certainly by useful due to the ability to reload it and lack of corrosive primers, but I can buy surplus ammo for cheap.

In terms of stockpiling, I'll probably get a large stock of FMJ surplus rounds and as much modern production as I can (preferably soft point if I can find it). I'll start with the modern stuff, then delve into surplus.

I like the hydra-shock tactical line- HST is pretty good but expensive. My favorite in .45 is Winchester Ranger bonded because they use the bonded PDX1 bullet for half the price of civilian PDX1. Silvertips are nice for matches too...

then in 9mm I have everything under the sun. lol Ranger 9mm NATO for targets, hornady XTP and FTX, a couple boxes of 147 grain talon stuff, and a few rounds of hydra-shock 147 grain for subsonic use so I don't have to use talon for playing with a silencer...

I basically scout for deals just like you I guess. I like playing with different bullet weights and shapes in different guns too much to settle on all one type. Except my two types for the .45, which are both Winchester anyway

Whatever I can find the best deal on for 500 round lots. Used to just buy it a box ro two at a time, but now that I have a nice, steady paycheck, I buy in 500 round lots. THat means pretty much just FMJ, usually surplus or russian. For carry, it's usually Hornady XTPs.

Howdy from Asscrackistan, y'all.

I buy whatever is cheap but still performs decent. I buy FMJs mainly, as they are only a bit more than wadcutters. I go with steel case for calibers I don't plan on reloading, like .380 and 7.62x39, but I buy the lowest-priced brass stuff for calibers that I am going to reload. The tokarev, mosin, and K31 are fed surplus.

So favorite ammo all around would be Bitterroot Valley. CTD sells the stuff in multiple calibers cheaper than most stores sell other brands, its reloadable, not filthy, and American made. Good enough for me.

It is here because it doesn't expand, therefore it isn't usually a clean kill

Speer Gold Dot or Remington Golden Saber. Federal Hydra Shock and Champion are more readily available in my area though.

I really only stockpile FMJ (And buckshot and birdshot for the shotguns), I don't have the budget to stockpile the pricier JHP stuff I carry in my handguns.

That's one reason why I'm a .45ACP fan, I don't believe that it's as dependent on modern JHP designs to be effective. If I have to carry a pistol with FMJs, it's going to be a .45.

Right now I've got PDX1s, Golden Sabers, and HSTs sitting around. Always in the heaviest weight for caliber (230 grains for .45, 147 grains for 9mm, etc...).

My general approach is to have 2-4 magazines of premium defensive ammo that is what I keep ready to go, a stockpile of reliable but unremarkable ammo, and short term supplies of either cheap ammo or my own reloads. I try to shoot from my short term supply while hedging out my stockpile and periodically rotating my premium defensive stuff. At present, I use the following:

9MM
-Ready to go premium defensive ammo: Winchester Ranger-t 147gr JHP
-Stockpile: Fiocchi JHP
-Short term shooting supply: Winchester White Box & Blazer Aluminum FMJs

45ACP
-Ready to go premium defensive ammo: Winchester PDX BJHP
-Stockpile: Fiocchi 200gr JHP
-Short term shooting supply: Blazer Brass FMJs

.38 Special/.357 Magnum
-Ready to go premium defensive ammo: Still experimenting to decide if .357 Mag worth it out of my 2.5" barrel, but currently using Hornady .38 specials with 125gr JHP XTP bullets. Have experimented with .357 Speer Gold Dots in the past. May try out the snub nose specific loads at some point.
-Stockpile: Winchester .38 special 125gr +P JHPs & Federal .357 Mag 158gr JSP
-Short term shooting supply: Fiocchi wad cutters & Blazer LRNs.

.223/5.56
-Ready to go premium defensive ammo: Honady TAP .223 75gr
-Stockpile: Base of about 750 Federal XM193 5.56 55gr FMJ rounds, but I'm thinking about trying out the Hornady TAP training ammo and seeing if it's got decent reliability. If so, I might start switching to this.
-Short term shooting supply: Reloading. Currently just churning out the same load over and over because it's doing pretty well for me. 69gr Sierra OTM + 23.5gr H4895.

12 Guage:
-Ready to go premium defensive ammo: Plain jane 00 Buck Shot, usually Winchester
-Stockpile: Just more buckshot
-Short term shooting supply: Mostly cheap Remington 7 1/2 bird shot for clays.

Whatever's on sale at the stores, or cheap at the gun shows. I do try to avoid Wolf, in .40s&w it just doesn't work well in my Glock, also their .357 shoots really dirty. Do you find this valuable?

I'm much like IMMC, I stockpile whatever I can afford to get, and only when it's at a good price. I'm not picky about brand, bullet type, etc. Do you find this valuable?

Pretty soon I'm actually going to start stocking Milsurp ammo for my Mak 90. I can buy it by the crate for fairly cheap compared to other rounds.
I also really like Golden Bear ammo. I have some Speer Gold Dot and Hydra-Shok for my 1911 stored for a special occaision. I've also got a bunch of Hornady ballistic tip ammo for my 30-06 and a 243Win.

I actually go on and spend the money for Hydra-shok 147 gr JHP +p for my 9mm stuff. I use whatever is good bulk price for plinking, but my stockpile is all Hydra-Shok. It's no really a brand loyalty as much as I just want reliable (both my weapons love it) ammo stockpiled. I buy a box every paycheck or everyother paycheck, and about 500 rounds each year with my income tax return.

My black powder pistol gets standard BP, nothing special. Slugs are just basic .32 balls

My .357 uses what ever recognizable brand ammo is cheapest at the time. Typically I stick to talon style JHPs though. I figure if I'm gonna shoot them with the magnum, I want to do some serious damage

my favorite ammo is the free kind. i buy and sell alot of guns and about one in seven comes with at least some ammo. i always keep all the ammo and anything extra that comes with the gun and then i sell the gun for a profit (or i break even if it came with alot of ammo or accessories).
