I have sporadic communications and short-notice planning with hunting buddies(most hunts start 'Hey, wanna come with us?). I decided to use the hunting trips as Bug-Out practice, both to make more efficient use of the time and to impress them. Current Bug Out Gear Hunting vest: -flashlight (bright and dim) -glowsticks (5) -maps (local and state, national) -magnifying glass -sharpies -water bottle -camel water pack (70oz) -fire starting kit (back-up) -shooting gloves -"Last Resort" pistol (revolver) -Kukri machete -2 speed loaders (w/ ammunition) -30 rounds (pistol) -18 rifle rounds or 9 shotgun shells BOB #1 (gym bag): Equipment -Spare knives +skinning knife +hatchet (backup weapon 1) +"butchering" knife (backup weapon 2) -work gloves (for butchering, worn over shooting gloves) -fire starting kit -3 day dry rations -4-6 water bottles -wool blanket -emergency blankets (2) -emergency sleeping bag -change of clothes -Military first aid kit -gun-cleaning kit -200 pistol rounds -200 rifle rounds or 100 shotgun shells BOB#2 (m60 ammo box): Ammunition Ammunition: pistol (revolver): 50 soft points (semi-jacketed), 50 hollow points rifle: 100 shots Bandoleer (w/ vest) -50 shotgun shells or 100 rifle rounds What I'm looking for is advice on what I can take out, or what I need to add. My fastest time from entry to departure currently (4/7/2011) is 2 minutes and 24 seconds (had to change out of my uniform). **For anyone concerned: we only hunt things that fall under "Nuisance" and attempt to follow every regulation Do you find this valuable?

What is all in the gun cleaning kit? You have a lot of blanket type equipment. I do not see any rope. What type of rifle are we talking about? From your profile you have a .357 mag listed and a Remington 12 gauge. Just hoping for a little clarification. How are you packing all these knives?

do whatever pleases you but heres how i load my BOB.i have a full bag like yours which i plan to keep in my car, but when it comes to a carry BOB its much lighter with only a few essentials. it only weighs about 10 lbs where as my full BOB weighs about 60. i decided its better to have a lot of skill sets to work with than to have tons of gear. gear is heavy which slows me down and makes me tired. i can fabricate lots of things i need with a knife or junk thats laying around Do you find this valuable? |

One thing you should consider is adding emergency signal flares, they're always great to have, and they are very light and don't take up much space.Good luck. Do you find this valuable? |

More ways to start fire. Water purification, emergency stove, an all-weather notepad in case you need to make a map or jot something down. A compass. Whistle. Tarp. Rope, mess kit. Thats all I can think of right now. take a look at my BOB I have not updated it for a while and I have added things. Most of it is Luxory but it includes essentials and only weighs about 30lbs.

It seems a whole list of things that slipped from my mind. Mrman: The gun cleaning kits one of those universal kits, including a few extra patches. To supplement it, I've added a pair of gun cloths, more oil, bore acid, and a regular copper brush. The rifle is relatively new. Its a model 1891 Mosin-Nagant bolt-action. There's a rather large surplus of ammunition for it (7.62x56R), so me and hunting buds got em. I got the emergency blankets as a bit of a joke, but left em in the bag (just in case). The other blanket is what keeps the knives together. I'll admit I completely forgot the rope. Its now a priority on my list (including other things listed) humanroach: Knives are great (and multifunctional to boot!), but are still unable to do several key functions (yet). hellface: I figured I could skip those when I first planned my bag. Now I'm starting to reconsider. rabidbeav: forgot about water purification and a tarp, they are now on my list. I should be able to scrounge up a whistle. I wasn't aware of the existence of emergency stoves, I'll look into those. I do have a notepad and military compass that I forgot to list. I can add a set of utensils to my bag until I find a more durable set for now... Do you find this valuable? |

"It seems a whole list of things that slipped from my mind.Heres one. http://www.bestglide.com/esbit_stove.html I actually don't use the esbit but I have it. I prefer compact alcohol stoves made of recycled cans. They work great, mine boils 2 cups of water in 4 minutes. The Only downside is that you have to carry alcohol but a little alcohol goes a long way. http://cgi.ebay.com/MINI-ALCOHOL-STOVE-8oz-ULTRALIGHT-HIKING-CAMP-SURVIVAL-/260771713208?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb73490b8#ht_500wt_949 Do you find this valuable? |
