Day or Night?
May 13 2011, 4:15 PM EDT
This is one I can't really remember seeing on this sight other than in short mentions here and there. Suppose following an apocalyptic scenario you find yourself out in the open, away from the safety of any kind of encampment or shelter. Would you choose to move with the daylight, making the most of the vision? Or would you choose to move in more nocturnal hours, say from dusk to dawn, when other survivors may be sleeping, and when zombies and other hostiles may have more difficulty tracking and following you. And, since everyone's idea of their own little survival scenario is different, comment on one or all of the three: 1) You're on foot, alone, hoofing it towards the next town to re-supply in, or searching for other survivors or a stronghold to take shelter in. 2) You're traveling by vehicle, either alone or with one other car or truck. Similar circumstances to option one, continuously mobile in search of supplies or a safe haven. 3) You are in a secure, relatively impenetrable stronghold, and raiders are nowhere to be seen. However, your zombie free safe haven is running desperately low on supplies, and you're in too far a secluded area to find anything substantial enough to support you and your group within a day's walk. Suppose following an apocalyptic scenario you find yourself out in the open, away from the safety of any kind of encampment or shelter.if by car, i dont know how it would make a difference to me. on foot, i would go by day. its too easy to step in/on something and get hurt. also you never know where a zombie might be hiding and you step on it. EDIT: also other survivors will probably have night guards around their hideouts and you wont see them but they may mistake you for a threat. or they might just be a threat to you.. i prefer to see 1 out of 1 found this valuable. "if by car, i dont know how it would make a difference to me.That's a good point. Slinking past the undead doesn't exactly work if you roll your ankle and cripple yourself. Same thing goes if you find shelter just to take a bullet trying to knock on the front door. Though, as for the car, I can see a difference. For one, you'd be a lot harder to track by both humans and most zombie archetypes. Though of course if you overdrive your headlights and stumble onto a zombie... Do you find this valuable? |

Day light, I have an astigmatism in my right eye that makes it hard for me to see at night. I also like to see were I am walking. I feel that in the light I can see any thing coming, and try to avoid any problems. Although others can see me also. Do you find this valuable? |

1. )If I was alone, I would probably move durin the day, and sleep in a tree at night.2. )Again, day so I could identify possible threats 3. )At twilight, so I could still be somewhat covered, but still have some ligh to see by. Do you find this valuable? |

By day or the twilight hours. Zombies can probably hear and smell us at night and we won't be able to see them. It would put you at a disadvantage.

If the zombies are runners I'd move in the day. I really need to be able to see. I wear glasses, and considering the pitiful state said glasses are in I don't want to be moving around blind. I might consider driving though. But only maybe. As said above, it would be dependent on the zombie type.I also have the kids to consider. They'd get lost as sure as anything. They are also pretty noisy, even when we are trying to be quiet (and we really try to work on being quiet because I'm trying to teach them the finer points of nature watching---er--- zombie-watching). Now that would make a case for night travel in my opinion, especially by some sort of vehicle or cart, etc. Get the kids quiet and asleep, then move.Do you find this valuable? |

"By day or the twilight hours. Zombies can probably hear and smell us at night and we won't be able to see them. It would put you at a disadvantage."Can you hear or smell someone from fifty feet if they're just walking along? Obviously if they were some sort of "I Am Legend" superzombies you'd have a point, but then daylight would be the obvious winner anyway... For normal zombie archeptypes I don't see smell or to a lesser extent sound as a major issue. Now if you had a virus or plague that was cross species on the other hand you'd be in trouble at night, but as for the "normal" human zombie our senses aren't good enough while we're alive. "but as for the "normal" human zombie our senses aren't good enough while we're alive."Speak for yourself a growing group of us here sprout our wings at night. We also see everything with a thermal glow...As for hearing...well its ok basically anything within 5 miles. Do you find this valuable? |
