Road Trip
May 15 2011, 2:47 PM EDT | Post edited: May 15 2011, 2:47 PM EDT
I have decided to take a vacation. I am going to drive my yellow 1957 Bel Air. I am going to be gone about a month. I am going to:
Okeechobee, FL ~ for a week to visit my Mother and Father
Austin, TX ~ for a week to visit my Sister
Phoenix, AZ ~ for a week to visit my Brother
Then taking my time driving back.

I am assembling a kit to take with me:
Ruger P 345 .45, with 4 - 8 round extra mags., and 200 rounds of Hydra-Shock
Walther PPQ 9mm, with 3 - 17 round extra mags., and 200 rounds of Hydra-Shock
Tool box - standard wrenches, sockets, drivers, pliers, and etc.
32" crow bar
Spare tire
Jack with lug wrench
First aid kit ~ standard store bought
2 - 2 D Mag Light with 4 spare batteries
12 MRE's
8 1 liter bottles of water
2 Wool blanket
Roll of Gorilla Glue duct tape
200 feet of 550 cord
2 small back packs
Hiking boots (mine and Amanda's)
Tent
2 Sleeping bags
2 Air mattresses
2 Barbecue lighters
Camp cooking set (pans, utensils, plates, bowls, cups, dish soap, and scrubber)
4 towels
4 wash cloths
Roll paper towel
2 Rolls of toilet paper
Insect repellent
Sun screen

We will also have various changes of clothing, driving gloves, and plenty of cash and cards.

We will be staying in medium to high end hotels on my trip.

I am taking my 17 year old daughter Amanda with me, she is a good driver and likes to shoot as much as I do. She picked out the Walther PPQ, after testing over 15 pistols, I have to say I like the fit in my hand and the way it shoots also.

In case the zombies arise while we am on our trip, are there any reasonable suggestions on other items I should pack?

Dude. You can afford to live in medium to high-end hotels for a month, but you plan to drive a 54 year old gas guzzling vehicle on a road trip, during a time when you expect the zombie apocalypse to begin?

Okaay...

Sell the Chevy. I'm sure it's in mint condition, a show winner. You could conceivably get $25-50,000 for it. Use the money to get a modern compact pickup with an auxiliary fuel tank and a couple of off-road bicycles strapped to the tailgate. Head north of the snowline and start establishing yourself in some place that's defensible.

And load up a lot more food, water and ammo.

It's a road trip dude. And if he wants to keep the Chevy, all the better to him.

My suggestion is to bring some sort of carbine with you as well, if there is one that shares the same magazines with your handguns (wouldn't know, I'm not a handgun kinda guy), if not, at least bring one that shares ammunition. Handguns are nice, but a carbine gives you a little longer range.

As for ammunition, I think you have enough for a while, but if you can afford to fit more, by all means go ahead.
Food, same opinion as I have for ammunition.

I have all kinds of vehicles. Including an: 2009 H2, 2010 Ford F250, 2011 Camaro, 2011 Prius (my daughter drives), 1975 Chevy 1500 pick up, 2011 Cadillac SRX, 1999 Harley Fat Boy, and a Kawasaki KX 450 dirt bike.

My Bel Air isn't "mint" the body is but, it has a rebuilt 350 with a 4 barrel Holley carburetor. I love my remade baby, that I spent 3 years to build don't plan on any apocalypse while on vacation, but it's better to be prepared than caught off guard.

Yes, I can afford this trip easily. My business has been going GREAT.

I can buy more ammo., as needed, plus I know that my family at each location has plenty. As for a carbine, I am only taking the pistols for target shooting, and just in case.

Food I figured I can find more if I need to.

Probably a good idea to find a state by state guide to handgun laws; I know some states require you to do silly things like try to flee before you fire in self-defense. Do you find this valuable?
