Some tips
May 22 2011, 11:16 PM EDT
firstly, I am very nervous with any plan involving heading to a major store as soon as you suspect an outbreak. Odds are a lot of panicked people will already be looting the place and this may very well get violent. I would thus recommend trying to buy some of these supplies in advance. For some food you could set a side a tiny portion of the annual crop from the farms. Secondly, for latrines any system works (there are some good ideas on this site) and placing it as far as possible away from the house is clearly preferable. Thirdly, be sure to consider the extremely high price of solar panels.4) I would definitely consider bolstering your fencing with barbed wire as well as adding defensive ditches (preferably with spikes), traps, and possibly walls (see digging in section of website for info on all these fortifications). These additions could (and should to prevent hostile/bewildered reactions of neighbours) be completed after Z-day. 5) Deciding whether to bug in or bug out- If you live close to a major urban area (you never specified how close you are to the city centre) of Kansas City (within a few miles) I would STRONGLY recommend bugging out because there will be a LOT of zombies heading your way, most likely more than enough to overrun your defenses. 6) Bug out location- I idid some research and have some good potential locations you could bug out to: 1. Elsworth Survivor`s RVE- if you are willing to trust someone you can try to connect with them as well as a few other RVEs near your location. Just look in the Rendezvous and Evacuation Points section of the website. 2. If you can take the milder weather there`s a lot of low-population area up north in Michigan and other great lake areas (including in Canada assuming the border is still open/unattended due to Z-Day). 3. If you can take cold weather the area just south of Hudson`s bay also has good hunting and is sparsely populated. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

CONTINUED4. to the west there are mountainous regions that should offer good hunting and fishing as well as terrain that should keep zombies from making too many incursions although this terrain may also prove difficult for you. Population gets sparser as you go further into the mountainous region. Forests range from sparse to heavy and you should not have too much trouble finding a defensible position in one of the light wooded / clearings. Farming depends on the soil in whatever area you choose to settle temporarily or permanently. Good Luck. Do you find this valuable? |

One more tip: don`t get to settled into/comfortable with a set routine as if something happens to disrupt the routine your plan/order can quickly fall to pieces.Always have back-up/contingency plans and practice them occasionally. You`re plan is pretty solid and hopefully these tips can help you make it even better.
