So this is what everybody is talking about.

So what you're trying to say is that Wal-Mart will be empty? My moms friend works there and she says there is ten times as much food and supplies in the warehouse behind the store. Even if the stores miraculasly were cleaned out I'd just look for Wal-Mart semis as I traveled the open road. 0  out of 16 found this valuable. Do you?

I'm not afraid to risk my life. If it means feeding my girlfriend and our friends. My group will look to me for protection and food and I'll do everything in my power to keep my people happy.

Or (again) you can Prepare Now and not need to take the risk for a non-guaranteed gain.

Those trucks would have had countless other people pass them by. You think you're the first to think of taking them?

No it's not, kids can get/buy food too. If one wants to do something, a little thing like age won't stop you. How many teenage moms are out there, even though their parents don't help them get that way.

The cash issue can be restrictive.

so much so that you either prepare for SHTF or for having a social life and actually touching a female in the next century.

Yes it will be, people will have the same ideas as you, if you don't have it before z-day, don't expect to have it after.

Tons of guys have come through here saying those exact things, they were all proven wrong one way or another

Awww bless! Seriously don't worry about your cat mate, the most useless fat pampered Persian purebreed (not suggesting yours is) is about two an a half square meals away from being a killing machine with more ability to survive than you, I and Chuck Norris combined.
It will take it's self off if it thinks you can't keep it but it will be doing ok most anywhere.

Ya know, even back when I just wanted to forage and scavenge without doing any of the growing myself I still figured that I'd need to get stuff for farming communities and sell to them. =^_^= I built an arsenal around the notion of moving around indoors and scavenging all kinds of things, not just food but anything that would trade, while using my house clearing to set up little trade routes. =^_^=

In times of crisis Walmarts really do get picked clean so this isn't really about conjecture. But I always figured that the best use of Walmart after the z-poc would be sleeping atop their freezer unit =^_^= Away from reach of zombies. Have the rifle toters take care of whatever crowd developed.

Any time you have an emergency people flock to retail stores. Walmart is the obvious choice but I'd be willing to bet most local markets will be picked clean in the rush.
Once chaos breaks out people will probably resort to looting, that will probably take care of the remainder of most of their stock.
On another note, if I were a raider I'd probably keep my eyes out for the trucks you mentioned. If someone wanted to set a trap for desperate survivors that would probably be a more obvious one.
Is there anywhere near your bug out location that has fertile enough land to farm?

i think it depends on where you live

i know because of the second hand experience of civil war in Yugoslavia.
Sure, people bought more and stored food, but there was enough for everyone and you woudnt die in a stampedo in a shop

Is that counting forced production land, that's to say land that would be marginal or completely uncultivated without phosphates, irrigation or permanent drainage etc?

In Britain a large part of the agricultural land falls into that category. East Anglia is sometimes called Britain's bread basket it used to be wetlands. It was drained and the cuts and canals take a considerable amount of maintenance.

You aren't going to be growing much in a salt marsh or a dust bowl for that matter.

In OK here people all flock to Walmarts and Warehouses at the last minute.
Durring those snow storms there was a lot of panic buying, Walmart's shelves were almost completely picked clean.
If the snow would have lasted a while longer I have no doubt that it would have degenerated into looting eventually.
Also, I didn't realize the OP was gone.
