from where? A house where no one is living, why not? A gun store or military base, bad idea. Every man and his dog will be doing the same. Just the same as a Walmart plan.

"from where? A house where no one is living, why not? A gun store or military base, bad idea. Every man and his dog will be doing the same. "hence, a house where no one is living..."It would be a toss up. If no ones there they probably have there weapon with them. Really what choice do you have though? If you need a gun your going to have to get lucky and scav one. Do you find this valuable? |

Bows are great, there bloke on an Australian survival site who goes into the bush and live of what he kills with is bow! I'm buing a compound bow off a mate, imagine if the government bans hunting in an economic collapse and you need to pouch, a gun is very loud.

Do not go out of your way to steal one, but if you come across a dead guy with one, take it (Obviously) but like I said don't go out of your way (Like raid a military base or police armory)

Such a government that would ban such things is a government worth going to war with. Should that occur... 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

"if you need to hunt for survival, that is not poaching.if you're at the brink of social collapse, then a revolution may not be on the cards. In the great depression many animals were under extreme pressure because of hunting, so it would not be unlikely that in a worse economic collapse, say fuelled by peak oil, that game species would come under great pressure from hunting. The government may, in the end 'need' to ban hunting to save certain species from extinction. Whether it is write or wrong, a rifle would not be the best tool for 'poaching' animals undetected. However we are getting of topic. In answer to the op's question. If you find one take it, but don't rely on it. By a bow and/or an air rifle. Practise with a bow and it can be as deadly as a rifle. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Yes, I would regard scavenged weapons as a "bonus" and not rely on it happening. IOW, don't plan for it, but if it happens, then great!

If the weapon is laying in the arms of a dead guy by all means take it. But what if it's still slung around it's zack owner? how far would you go to get a firearm if you didn't have one? See that gun over on that corpse over yonder? It's empty and there is a hungry fellow with the shakes aiming his .308 right over the corpse waiting for his next meal.

"if you're at the brink of social collapse, then a revolution may not be on the cards.the coming societal collapse won't have government involvement. idk how it goes in the land down under, but the American Empire will crumble unless the gov't chooses to focus on it.. that means forgetting about its own people. THus, to hell with laws after that. @ VagabondVance: oh yeah, ishould start a thread about how to deal with cannibals... idk. Do you find this valuable? |

Or you just found a few perfectly serviceable guns while off on a supply run. You head back to your boarded-up home, sneak in through your secret entrance, and find that none of the guns are in calibers that you have. Or you decided not to get any guns before SHTF and you don't have any more than the few rounds already in the guns.
