Glock ! They're notoriously reliable, user friendly with almost no learning curve, plus they're usually chambered in commonly found calibers. 9 mil is good and common. If concealment is desired, get a glock 27.

"Some people want a gun that has an actual safety, others don't like the feel of a glock. Point is, glocks aren't for everyone."Maybe Glocks aren't for everyone, only oxygen is. However, glocks usually (always?) feature a trigger integrated safety that is quite effective and fumble free. Glocks are good for a quick draw. You wanna have to carry out the extra step of turning a safety off when zack catches you with your pants down? 0 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

"I think you mean 26 for concealment."the 26 is good for concealment, but why not up the caliber to 40 s&w? plain clothes cops usually do. Do you find this valuable? |

"the 26 is good for concealment, but why not up the caliber to 40 s&w? plain clothes cops usually do."Because .40S&W is pretty snappy in tiny subcompact pistols. Do you find this valuable? |

I'm not a fan. Being OOOOLD school., most poly framed pistols feel out of balance to me, top heavy.I prefer steel or alloy framed sidearms. Also the Glock does not fit my hand well and I detest the trigger. As far as having to "turn off" a safety, I sweep the safety to the off position as I am drawing my sidearm. I pull just as fast as if it had no manual safety. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I would suggest a Sig P226 if you want a heavier 9mm gun, otherwise the Glock just has too many positives in it's corner to turn down. However, I wouldn't go for a baby Glock. Go with a 19, for less recoil, additional capacity and longer sight radius. The difference in concealment is pretty much unrecognizable unless you want to ankle carry.

Lack of a safety makes some people big idiots. And plenty of guns out there lack safeties. Lets see if I can get the common ones. S&W M&P, Springfield XD, Sig P22X, Sig P250, SigPro, HK family, CZ family, FNP, Five-seveN, Beretta PX4 & 92F family, ... there's a lot of stuff that can do the same. Why is the Glock any better, then? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"the 26 is good for concealment, but why not up the caliber to 40 s&w? plain clothes cops usually do."That's because they usually carry Glock 22s, which share the ammo and mags. You shouldn't automatically go up in caliber, *especially* when you go down in gun size. The .40 S&W is a nasty round out of a compact gun. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"They're also very commonly the subject of a Negligent Discharge. Lack of a safety makes some people big idiots. And plenty of guns out there lack safeties. Lets see if I can get the common ones.Look on YouTube where the LEO told the kids in a class he was the only one qualified to handle the Glock he carried as he proceeded to shoot himself in the leg in from of them as he holdstered it. IMO, The XD is a better choice especially w/ the additional safety functions they add (grip safety, cocked indicator, chamber loaded indicator). Metal mags make the grip narrower making it more comfortable to many shooters. Lets not forget the 1911 style grip angle which is much more natural compared to the Euro grip angle of the Glock. Glocks are well made & reliable, yes. Best out there, I don't think so and definately not the best for someone who is not well trained in handgun usage (or IS as we can see from the numerous NDs). 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Nature has her own safeties against stupidity. That seems like an example of that principle.

I am a huge fan of Glocks, too. I've fired several and tended to shoot better with them than all the other handguns I had fired up to that point (SIG P229, etc.) with the exception of my Makarov. However, that being said, the attitude that Glocks are the best guns out there for everyone and can't be beaten is just silly in my opinion. They work for me, but not for many others. Besides, I recently found out the value of keeping an open mind when I was introduced to the Beretta PX4 Storm in 9x19mm (full-size). Rented it at a local shooting range and fell in love with it. Shot a little under a hundred rounds out of it, but it was enough for me to recommend giving it a try. It was lightweight but felt balanced. More to the point, it just felt "right" in my hand -- it perfectly fit every inch of my grip and felt like a natural extension of my arm. The trigger and sights were both good. Not to mention the respectable magazine capacity. I shot better with it than just about any other handgun I've ever fired, with no prior experience. Mileage may vary, but I'd recommend anyone who gets a chance to try one out do so. Do you find this valuable? |

I have yet to fire a Glock, and TBH I only recently opened up to them.In all honesty, I've tended to prefer all-steel .45s or .357 revolvers in the past. However, I would like to try one of the Glock 9mms (preferably the 34) in the near future. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

As someone who's a fan of Glocks I can honestly say that they're not for everyone. I hated them for a long time until I started to open up more to the polymer pistol market. I've always been a 1911 (Or any ergonomic steel gun) type of guy. Glocks are fantastic guns, but their ergonomics make it hard for some to shoot them well. There's also the issue of them not always being able to handle +p loads and lead. There are equally excellent guns out there though. The Sigs (Mostly older makes) are awesome guns, the M&P/XD are both solid guns, I hear the Walther P99/PPQ are awesome too.........and of course H&K make's some good stuff. There's no reason to just limit yourself to one type of pistol being the end all be all. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
