A scenario for u guys to answer if ya want
Jun 24 2011, 2:58 AM EDT
Ok so u and 2 of your buddies are holed up in a 2 story house on the corner of a street you have 2 12gauge shotguns with 50 Rounds and a handgun of your choice with 100 rounds. You and one of your friends go to a shooting range at least twice a month and shoot with 12ga shotguns your other friend has never shot a gun. You have destroyed the stairs to the second floor but u have a rope ladder u can use to get down. Across the street is a grocery store with a good amount of food left in it. The house to the right of the one you're in might have some survivors but u don't know for sure. Down the street is a gun shop and across from that is a construction site with ,obviously, construction materials and a pickup truck that may or may not have gas in it. Unfortunately u are running low on food. U have enough to keep 2 people going for a couple weeks before you run out. The area you're in is not overrun with zombies but u can always see a couple on the street when u look out. What do u do?

Go hang out with the neighbors and watch the mob tear each other to pieces at the grocery store, and then watch the zombies tear the remainder of the mob to pieces at the grocery store. .... And then think about an excursion to the grocery store once everything settles down. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

why do i live next to a grocery store?Hell, that'd be pretty tempting to raid, seeing the proximity. I'ma be evil on this. take pot shots at anyone that tries to steal food or supplies from the store. (this is where being an evil heartless SOB would come into play) See, as the zombies tear apart the mob that will eventually form, you kinda.. hide. Or, take shots that "accidently" miss the zombies. Truth be told, you'd be doing them a mercy killing, the people that flock to the stores in the midst of a zedpoc. ANd it'd be one less walking corpse. Anywho, if you were THAT close to a grocery store, i'd have gotten some heavy firepower(belt fed m1919a4 semi auto anyone?), a couple semi auto rifles, and a few bolt action hunting rifles. Lock that store down from a distance I mean, its only like 50-150 yards, right? Do you find this valuable? |

Personally, its a beacon for anyone thats hungry. Even months down the road. I would've bugged out. Do you find this valuable? |

I would bug out quickly, avoiding attention as much as possible while (as previously mentioned) the mob tears itself to pieces. Why not wait until things calm down? Because something like this would probably happen: Walk to the grocery store just to find bare shelves (looted clean during The Panic). Well that sucks, no food. Oh well, at least I can build my anti-zombie uber fortress of death with construction materials from that build site. Walks to the build site just to find all the trucks have left, taking all the good supplies and equipment with them. Oh well, no fortress but at least I can get some awesome weapons from that gun store to protect myself from that horde of zombies outside the grocery store. *Gets shot dead by the gun store owner who has holed up with a hunting rifle and 5 varieties of whiskey, none younger than 13 years* 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Mheheheheh, I'll bite. =^_^= Okay, I'm the guy who can't shoot a gun, but its okay, I have an axe. =^_^= I'd probably try to signal the other survivors somehow. If they're right next to me, then a laser pointer at night should do the trick without drawing any unwanted attention. I could spell our messages on the wall once they were aware of me. =^_^= Here I could hopefully find out if any of them were still alive and see if we had any escape options. It sounds like getting out of our area would be best. If the panic has died down and people died off so quickly that no one even had time for panic shopping, then I'd want to loot that grocery store on my way out. But first I could take a door off it's hinges. It could come in handy later or I may even be able to use it as a melee implement to deflect incoming grasps and push people over should I not have my axe with me (I'm following the original post conditions here.) I'd open the door by my axey self and check and see how many zombies came our way. If only a few came, I could lure them to the stairs and dispatch them in a safer and quiet manner. Then once the coast was clear we could move out to the store with the aid of our signalled neighbors... hopefully. I'd take point at the doorway since my partner has a shotgun now instead of his usual axe and shield. We'd gather our things in stationary shopping carts and sneak whatever we could as quietly as possible as I moved on to go and check whatever vehicles are nearby, namely, that truck. Scaving the construction site also sounds good, but it would only be an option if we had ample time. I'd try to drive the truck over to the grocery store as my partner and friend wheel their carts out. How to get the goods in quickly? Remember the door removed from it's hinges earlier? Now it can be a shopping cart ramp. Do you find this valuable? |

we can load the goods quickly and turn the carts on their sides, then swing by the neighbors. We'll have them jump in the back for expediency's sake (That'll be my excuse at least... I won't tell them its cuz I feel like my guys in the front seat of my newly acquired pickup are more important to me and I know to be uninfected...) Then we'll make our way to a suitable and agreed upon location. To be concluded in... The next scenario threeeeeaaaaad Do you find this valuable? |

Sounds like my area.... Minus the gun store... In reality I wouldve been long gone a long time ago. Grocery store - gun store - houses, and I assume the grocery store is part of a plaza with smaller stores. The way I see it any mob looting the area is looting my tiny corner house. What would I do if this were real? Try and check if my neighbors are... Alive. With the amount of food and supplies and the low numbers of zeds, I'd leave at daybreak with my two buddies. "Nah, I'm just taking what I've learned from Sun Tzu. Foraging on my opponent when the opportunity presents itself. :D"This is not what Sun Tzu was talking about. The Art of War teaches to forage on the enemy in order to eliminate the need to supply your armies from home, an operation which would cost 19 supply carts to deliver 1 to the front. I think the main point of TAoW in that lesson was to defer the cost to the nation when supporting an extended military campaign. It was more a question of logistics than convenience, but you are not wrong to loot your enemies. Do you find this valuable? |
