My Idea of Zombie Infection

I believe that if someone (terrorist, mad scientist, overly-curious 12-year-old, etc.) could perhaps get their hands on the Rabies virus and genetically tweak it to where it could be much stronger and aggressive, so it's effect would be the same on humans as it is to animals (dehydration, fever, rage, death) ,we might just have a potential zombie apocalypse on our hands. Now, I know that the outbreak would most likely be temporary and short due to the fact that the disease kills the victim within 4 to 5 days, it could be one of the most terrifying things ever to happen to the human race...

One thing that would be nice about this type of infection would be the zombies dying all by themselves at least through starvation, the infection itself among other "natural" causes.

Yes this is a very plausible zombie type scenario popularly known from Quarantine 1 & 2. I also agree that it would be scary as hell as well as devastating. Can you imagine what it would be like if lets say 2/3rds of the human and animal population contracted the super rabies? It would be a war zone spanning to all 4 corners of the earth. Good thing though that the virus eventually kills its host. Also because the host is not truly a "zombie" it would mean that you could kill the infected by any life threatening way possible. So how would it spread?

"So how would it spread?"The method of infection would most likely be from a bite because rabies is transmitted through saliva . So even though there is no recorded history on human-to-human rabies transmission only animal to human it would be safe to say that the person/persons who altered the rabies virus would "tweak" it to give it the ability to pass from human-to-human. Now at this point you gotta remember its no longer just rabies so I would also guess that you could get infected if any infected bodily fluid got ingested or made contact with an open wound. They'd also have to make the gestation period for uber-rabies shorter, rabies is nowhere near the almost instant killer we know & love so much. So possibly 24 hours or less for infection to kick in & make it last a week.

Another thing is that when the host is going through the "rage" period of the super rabies, pain wouldn't bother them. So you could pop a few shots from a 357. into their stomach and the only thing that would happen is that they would keep on running towards you until they finally bleed out, OR, in another scenario, if you shot them several times in the kneecap with a shotgun, they would either try to drag along the injured leg as best as they can, or, if the leg is just barely hanging on by a string of muscle/tendon, they would just keep on crawling until death by blood loss.

This is the most plausible to me. Not many natural things can make zombies, so humans would probably have to interfere for a disease to get to that level.

There arn't many natural scenarios that would produce a zombie . Do you find this valuable? |

Spreading through bodily fluid infection only is actually a pretty crappy way to spread the disease, because the infected would need to get within melee distance before they could infect. If the virus wasn't 100% communicable either, that's another problem.I'd say either airborne and/or waterborne or (if you want to keep the bodily fluid vector idea) used to infect large amounts of stored blood and IV fluids in hospitals; this is the apocalypse idea my GURPS campaign is running with. The zombies wouldn't be the worst of it. It would be dealing with the millions of anarchists left afterwards. Imagine world war 3 right after something like this.

"The zombies wouldn't be the worst of it. It would be dealing with the millions of anarchists left afterwards. Imagine world war 3 right after something like this."I totally agree but if people survive a ZA only to battle a bunch of anarchist a$holes who don't care about rebuilding civilization, then so be it. I can tell you that I would personally kill them just as quick as I would a zombie. Do you find this valuable? |
