Which vehicles would you use to travel in a zombie apocalypse?
Jul 11 2011, 4:52 AM EDT
Kind of a basic question, I don't think I have to remind you about the fact that the roads may be blocked by other vehicles or something else and you'll need to get through them somehow. The best option would be a vehicle that does not waste much fuel and has space for luggage/supplies and maybe for other survivors. My personal choice would be a minivan or an SUV. I'm interested in your vehicle of choice. 25 out of 28 found this valuable. Do you?

Two wheels or four legs in short. Riding as opposed to driving offers more opportunities to evade hostiles, better chances of escaping them and as you are less detached from the environment, a better chance of detecting threats than being 'in' a motorcar. And of course there is there is economy to consider. Worst case scenario, having to fight, most of the Dragoon tactics can be applied to motorbikes or even bicycles. [Edit] thinking on a little, the tactic of laying the 'mount' down and using it as cover to shoot from, may not be much help if your on a bicycle. . . _ 5 out of 9 found this valuable. Do you? |

"My number one choice is my Jeep, number two is my Van, number 3 my bike, number 4 my feet. "The only vehicle I have (legal) access to right now is a dilapidated 96 Ford Windstar, but in an ideal world I'd have a four door 4WD pickup and a 4wd quad, then a bike and my feet. I like the pickup because it can be used to haul gear or supplies, can serve as mobile living quarters if a truck bed camper is added, can have the rear cargo bed enclosed in a "cage" of sorts to protect occupants from grasping hands while still allowing them to shoot, etc. I would also try to get/make a rugged off-road trailer for the pickup as well. The best part is that, when not being used for any of the above purposes, the pickup can be used to carry both the quad and the bike so that either can be used as needed. For fuel purposes, both the pickup and the quad would be equipped with wood gasifiers. 1 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

You can put tracks on almost anything. AWD is best of course.I have my 2000 Nissan Frontier king cab standard box, 4x4, and I just bought an Oscar Mike Jeep Wrangler. 1 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Your right, it means All Wheel DriveOh those are sick. I love 'em. Alas, I do not at the moment own a truck, but as I mentioned before, only a dilapidated Ford Windstar minivan (my family refers to the minivan as an old lady named Agatha. Mental image: little old lady hobbling down the road with a walker, puffing and wheezing as she desperately tries to keep up with traffic - LOL). Somehow I just can't imagine outfitting Agatha with a set of swamp tracks... though it might be funny as hell to see. 1 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

Cross country, most of the expedients listed above would work; you can outrun pursuit. For anything close, a bicycle or on foot. Noise is bad in this context, because all it's going to do is draw every Z within hearing. Just as melee weapons, bows & crossbows always have a place. The one undeniable drawback of firearms is the same as motor vehicles: noise.

Sure the zombies would hear the noise, but that doesn't mean that they'd be able to pinpoint its location, especially in an urban environment where a sound will tend to echo back and forth between the buildings. 8 out of 10 found this valuable. "Stealth is key to survival, always :)"Oh no doubt, stealthy is always good, I don't dispute that. Whenever one can be stealthy, they probably should, but I just don't think that a single gunshot or the sound of a single engine is going to bring every zombie in a five mile radius running like hogs to a slop bucket. 9 out of 10 found this valuable. And If for some bizarre reason they should all become Zeds..I could take care of them with one clip from my M-1 carbine. (about 12 people within that 5 mile radius) 9 out of 10 found this valuable. I'd probly go with a truck/jeep, but it would have to have a sun roof for someone to stand up and shoot out of. Plus a rack on top for supplies.
