"And how about this for the supercharger: it is powered by an auxiliary accessory belt and uses an electronic clutch pulley like an A/C pump. This means I can wire it to a switch that will allow me to choose between stock 108 horsepower and 32mpg or blown 125 HP and 128 ft.lb. torque (at about 10-15 mpg)."Gotta love the versatility. Unrealistically... Dead Reckoning. Realistically, I'd have to go with my bike for previously mentioned reasons... but for me morale is key... so I'll also have to try to roll in an El Camino as much as i can for some extra style and added zombie killing confidence.

I'm so jealous. Always wanted one in high school. But for Zed smashing I will stick with my GMC 3/4tn 4x4 ;) Do you find this valuable? |

Military Land Rover Defender. Rough tough, good fuel consumption, brilliant off-road and easy to fix.

"Military Land Rover Defender. Rough tough, good fuel consumption, brilliant off-road and easy to fix."Is that vehicle available to civilians, or is it a military only variant? If it is the latter, you might find it rather difficult to get a hold of and you might be better off choosing something a little more attainable. Do you find this valuable? |

I'd most likely use a Lada Niva. Strong like sh*t,durable, doesn't waste much gas, practically a 4x4 tank damn it! Good for off-road trips as well as on-road,and can damn well go through a decent amount of zombfags arse!

well despite his bravado i think he makes a point as old domestic ladas and old military ladas are tough as nails owing to the russian road system. older export models of lada .... meh not so much modified for the export market... when you start tacking things on it never really works. I'll stick with the oldies as I know little about new builds.I had the pleasure of off roading in an old ex military Lada they're built as soild as an old willy's and are as fun as hell to drive in the muck. @ White: Well,it may not win me any popularity, but it will for the Lada! :D @ Shadow: I live in a,now practically, third-world country, whose people like cherish and worship Russia (sad but true). Even though it is true that Russian made things are durable, other than cars, you can find anything Yugoslavian period made, and from Russia imported here.(I'm from Serbia btw) Even though old, those things are certainly fun to drive and maintained well enough, they serve well. Well they must serve well, cuz only until recently did my country import some actually good new cars from the Europian market.(Apart from rich geistarbeiters.) xD Do you find this valuable? |

Probably the same for him depending on where he lives. Besides, most aren't armored either. Do you find this valuable? |

Cool I've never been to Serbia, I've only been to Russia so I went with their road conditions they focused more on mass transit than roads. I don't know anything about the newer ones they dropped off the radar here a few years ago. The export models were for the Canadian market, we insisted on modifications and they didn't work very well as they were tacked on aftermarket parts by the dealers.

Can buy a decent armoured one in britain for about 8000 pound. Do you find this valuable? |

Well,I might say that Russian vehicles aren't really that qualified with modern electronics and stuff.Thats why their car industry is weaker nowadays. But still, when it comes to hard-core,nothing beats a lada. The last upgrade they did was add another 250 pounds of steel. xD Do you find this valuable? |

"Well,I might say that Russian vehicles aren't really that qualified with modern electronics and stuff.Thats why their car industry is weaker nowadays.Q: Why do Ladas come with rear window demisters? A: To warm your hands while pushing it up hills. ;) Seriously, though, the Lada Niva is a VERY competent off roader. I would question it's reliability, compared to, say, a Suzuki Sierra, however. My choice would also be a Landrover. Love the silly old things, and the diesels are very reliable, long range, and superb off-road. Ex military sales can bag them very cheap here in Australia, too, but I'd rather go for a civvie 4 door model, myself. One day I'll have one - it'd make a great tow car for the sportscar. I'm new to this site but I have been preparing for the apocalypse for 7 yrs, I would go with a bike, fast and easy to get inside buildings and good for scouting out potential hiding spots, wish I had one.

Something like this http://www.unicat.net/en/index2-TerraCross.html interests me the most, fuel economy is always going to be an issue with large vehicles but there are a lot of benefits to them. A well kitted out and modified Land Rover or similar 4x4 is possibly the best compromise of power/size/practicality but unless you rig an off-road caravan to it then it wont act as a mobile home like the TerraCross trucks do. I would want a light trailbike and a really top quality off-road bicycle rigged on which ever truck/car I ended up in though.EDIT: Realised I've slightly repeated myself from a previous post "If it's a question of which vehicle will I use, chances are I'll be stuck with a bicycle, a Toyota Yaris or a Vauxhall Zafira as these are readily available. If I'm lucky the work van, a Vauxhall Vivaro would be nearby (it is parked on-site 90% of the time, still possible to get to but rarely nearby.) Given the choice I think I'd be very happy with any consistent winner of the Dakar rally. (If you're not familiar, it's an off-road endurance race crossing dunes, mud, grass, rocks etc over distances of up to 500 miles per day.) Car; Volkswagen Touareg or Mitsubishi Pajero Truck; Kamaz Motorbike*; KTM 450 Rally or KTM 690 Rally I'm sure there are specialist/custom built vehicles out there that are better than these but the chances of me finding a dealership with a 'DeadZed9000 4x4 turbo' are pretty slim, at least all of the above (except perhaps the truck) are a possibility for me. *I can't ride a motorbike but I've included it in this for a sense of completeness." But the principle of both posts run true I believe. A reliable, off-road capable mobile home combined with a more mobile 4x4 car for scouting/supply runs and something very nimble for emergencies.
