The Walking Dead television show!

Just wanted to start a topic about this show. I just finished season one and loved it! I mean there are some things in the show that are a little far fetched, but overall that is what I imagine a zpoc to look like.

The ability to drive around months after the system has collapsed? Doubtful. And the "explosive" finale? Not so much. Overall it is ok, but the graphic novels are better. Do you find this valuable? |

"Yes and no. The devastation, certainly. The ability to drive around months after the system has collapsed? Doubtful. The bit that kinda stands out (for me) is the overall focus on the people instead of the zombies which in my honest opinion will factor more into survival than your ability to kill Zs. Yeah sure there are some iffy points but we knew the second he woke up unscathed in a hospital that that was gonna happen. Do you find this valuable? |

I really enjoyed Walking Dead season 1, can't wait to see season two!Last night I was in the ER with serious abdominal pain (nothing major or life threatening though, thankfully - just lots of pain due to a gastric ulcer) and I thought about what would happen if things got real while being in my weakened state, stuck in the ER.... I also enjoyed the show very much. I was impressed by the makeup most of all. I'm sure AMC didn't give out a huge budget and I think they did very well for what they had available. At first I examined the show tactically, I was disappointed by all the mistakes they were making. Then I forced myself to remember that these are NOT tactically minded people. They didn't choose each other. They were just kind of tossed together in the middle of an impossible circumstance. Once I took that in mind I enjoyed the show very much.

"I really enjoyed Walking Dead season 1, can't wait to see season two! That'd be a bad place to be for sure, especially since the first round of infected would basically be dumped right in your lap because nobody would recognize it for what it was until it was too late. Do you find this valuable? |

Some people make plans as if they're gonna stumble on an unattached squad of Marine Corps bad-asses the day after the sh!t goes down, or worse, they make plans as if they and their buddies are themselves gonna magically turn into a squad of Marine Corps bad-asses the day after the sh!t goes down. Well, I hope their plan is adaptable, because in real life they will probably end up with a squad of frightened housewives, accountants and a few know-it-all teenagers. If they're lucky their entire group might, MIGHT include an actual cop or military operator, but no more than one or two at most. If they're unlucky their group might include a mall ninja or two who thinks they can eradicate the hordes of undead singlehanded, probably leading everyone else into harms way or getting them killed in the process. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. People sometimes forget that not every survivor will be like us. They may just be a cubicle commando with a lucksack the size of Texas and a handful of basic skills. Do you find this valuable? |

"+1LOL - Cubicle commando. I like that. Not to derail the thread, but I understand this issue quite well. I am a life long hunter, and student of many things military so I am well acquainted with firearms, but I have no actual combat experience outside of paintball. Aside from myself, my current survivor group, assuming that they all make it, will include: Three housewives with extensive experience in cooking, cleaning and child rearing. One has extensive experience in gardening and former experience in caring for special needs children, the second also has experience in caring for special needs children, but no other training or experience, and the third has former experience as an office manager. They can grow vegetables or cook a meal like nobody's business, but might not be much help in a firefight. One commercial fisherman with former experience as a commercial logger and basic experience as a farm hand. He is also a life long hunter, so is at least well acquainted with firearms, but also has no combat experience. One near useless single mother, with very few appreciable domestic skills or professional experience. One decently skilled mechanic, if he can't fix it it ain't broke, but he'd also be the gung ho mouthy type who would lead the rest of us into harms way. (Cont'd) Do you find this valuable? |

One housewife with a bachelors in psych and a severe physical disability (wheelchair bound with brittle bones) One former used car salesman, who has never done any professional work for at least as long as I've known him, though I have no idea what else his employment background was like before then. One elderly woman (in her seventies) who also has with extensive experience in cooking, cleaning and child rearing, but as far as I know has never had much professional employment to speak of. One office worker with a physical disability (artificial hip) and middling decent domestic skills, again of limited use in a firefight. One taxi driver with a physical disability (severe scoliosis) And five children, ages two, three, five, eight and nine. As you can see, many of them have very useful skills, no doubt about that, but am I, with no combat experience of my own, somehow gonna turn THIS group into a crack squad of paramilitary experts? I think not.. Do you find this valuable? |

"I do like how the show shows people who aren't "Rambo" types."Exactly. A much more realistic make up of survivors. Like ZombieElvis said, they didn't choose each other. They were just kind of tossed together in the middle of an impossible circumstance. Just like real people are likely to be. Do you find this valuable? |
