Carry On, Bedside, Case on the Wall, Gun Safe (Weapons Purposes)

Okay, so in the corner, or the closet, or on the wall just above your bed are some places for home defense weapons, usually powerful, short range, low capacity weapons such as double barrel shotguns or .357 revolvers. The glass gun case on the wall is for your shooting range/practice weapons and critical acsess. The secure gun safe is for emergency SHTF weapons that you are stocking for Z-Day. Also, your concealed or open carry sidearm that you wear on you.

Okay, so a good above the bed weapon (my personal choice) would be a Stoeger Coach Gun, or any .357 magnum revolver for the drawer on a bedside table. As for the gun case would be possibly a Ruger 10/22 (cheap ammo, a good range and practice gun), a couple 9mm pistols, an Ithica 37, couple hunting rifles.
Secure SHTF gun safe would be Five-Seven, 1911, possibly SKS, AR-15 or preferably AR-10, Mossberg 500, erhaps, Saiga. (Obviously not all of them.)
My carry on would be concealed, as that's easier in SC, possibly a Colt New Agent or Bersa Thunder .380. Really, though, carry on wouldn't be my top priority. I only need that for self defense, or if Z-Day it happens suddenly and I need a gun to help me get home, but it would only be for sudden emergencies, and I don't really want one as much as I want some other stuff. Plus I need a concealed weapons permit fist. (I'd like to move to Alaska and not need a permit to carry a weapon, but that would change all my weapon preferences.)
My ideal gun safe weapon would be a Thompson and a sh** ton of rounds, but .45 isn't very cheap right now, and with the high capacity/rate of fire of a Thompson is impractical unless I can set aside the money to stock up on zombie apocalypse ammo supply, but investing in a Thompson and enough rounds to prepare for something like that is impractical. Really, I hope I won't be stuck with a 1911 when it happens.

A carry gun I'd imagine would be pretty damn important post zed. There's an advantage to being able to have a weapon and appear not to have one, no?

Also, I wouldn't have a glass gun case. Anybody passing by could see it, take something off a table and smash it to loot the guns inside. Or just act funny when they're at my place because there's guns behind a thin piece of glass. Ideally, I'd like a walk-in room where all the walls are covered with racks of guns, got a bunch of ammo cans with my reloads and surplus ammo, etc.

As for bedside defense, I'd like one of the key-press safes you can open in the dark by feel for a pistol. Otherwise it'd be a scatterbelt with "gun belt" nearby. I'm too poor to afford weaponslights yet.

Y'all call me out if I'm hijacking this thread.

In my opinion the place for your home defense gun is lying in the floor under your bed, where you can index it quickly in the dark without the risk of knocking it off of something else. Of course, I don't have kids. Still, if you maintain positive control of your weapon except when you're asleep in the bed, I think's that's a reasonably safe setup.

I agree with John 234 that a carry gun is important, and not just come Z day. Thing about a carry gun is, it's the one that you'll have immediate access to. No driving home, going out to the car, or even going to the other room; it's already in your hand. In a real SHTF you might not even have the option of going home...

Good point about the carry weapons. I also agree about having it under your bed. Do you find this valuable?

It's probably not appropriate for me to comment on this, seeing as I do not currently own a firearm. However, this is something I think about for when I do.

I would probably keep my longarms in my closet with my handgun under my bed. If I was ever able to actually collect guns, I would keep some on display in a glass case, but these would be antiques.

This is just me, though.

I keep a loaded 9mm in an antique wooden document box on a low dresser next to where I sleep on my bed. Leaning between the bed and the dresser is my 870 riot gun that has it's magazine loaded but not the chamber. Safety is off and hammer down so all I have to do is pump it.
On the other side of my dresser is my AR carbine in the same condition.
Have an ammo belt for the shotgun and a canvas pouch with 6 clips for the AR hanging by them

I think the downside of keeping a gun under your bed is unless you are a great housekeeper probably pretty dusty down there and a chance maybe it could be slid further so you can't get to it.

I keep a tec 9 in my bathroom in the closet under some towels.
Have a short barrel Remington model 11 semi auto shotgun in an antique coffin in the corner of my living room at the end of the hall

I keep most of my guns in my "Gun Room", this room has a sturdy outer door and then when you go in has a wall with another door with the room with the guns on the other side.
I keep a flag over this door. Is not readly apparent that the second door is there and while I am sure someone really looking would find it there is a chance it would escape notice.

Whoah, zombies are no threat to you, are they. I hope you're as well stocked on water and nonperishables as you are on guns. Do you have enough ammo stockpiled?

Agreed. Of course if I had a lot of ammo, I'd just spend it on ammo.

My favorite bedside weapon, a bright flashlight. =^_^= If somebody comes into my room while I'm sleeping I want to blind them while ensuring that I get a very clear look at their face to see if it's my partner or not.

My backup should the flashlight reveal something unpleasant, a very large and easy to grab knife. =-_-= Okay, okay, what can I say, I'm just as paranoid as the rest of you. =^_~=

I have about 4 months of food put away and am adding to it.
I have a personal well that I can also run off a gasoline engine. Have a stream that runs though my property right behind my house and could use that if purified. or boiled. [I have a water purifyer] I keep 40 gal. of water stored in containers and then 4 flats of bottled water

Don't know exactly how much ammo I have. Do have at least 1500 rds of 223 and same amount in 7.62 X39, at least 1000 rds of 30 06, same in .308 and 30 carbine, Maybe a little less 8mm and about 400 303
1500 rds of 9mm, 900 rds + of .45 and .38......Lots of other ammo such as .44 mag and special, 30 30 and .357 Mag but not enough that I can fill an ammo can with each caliber, ...I don't think...OH forgot the 500 rds of 7.62 X 25
Have no idea how many shotgun shells but got to be a 1000 at least. maybe more. I keep them in large wooden crates and to the stock all the time...never counted them
Around 15,000 .22s now
I also have reloading supplys and tools for a few of the cartridges I shoot
15 + lbs of blackpowder and flints and percussion cap for my muzzleloaders, also bullet molds
I think I should get more ammo and I buy it when I see a good deal

Besides guns, ammo and food I also have a barn and work shop full of tools and other gear

How about you?
