Whats a "Military Grade" mini gun...would a "Civilian or Sporter Grade" work?

I would take it if i had an established fortress. But in ANY other situation it would be almost useless because of weight and inaccuracy. 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

Haul the thing back to base. Display it very prominently. Sit back as nobody ever messes with us again.

I mean, would YOU pick a fight with the guy with the minigun?

If I had a minigun, I would trade it with some chump for something useable; food, water, ammo for a PRACTICAL GUN. 4  out of 5 found this valuable. Do you?

Yes, because machine guns make people cocky. All it takes is one round from a bolt-action that someone knows how to use and your gunner is gone.

Scrap it for parts if needed, or barter it all to several different traders: the actual gun goes to one, some ammo to another, some more ammo to another...

Basically keeps threats to a minimal in my immediate area as they'd either have no ammo or no gun (unless they join forces in which case I'm already screwed).

BTW; useless thread really.

I mean to say, bring it back to base, sans ammo, and basically keep it as one giant bluff.

It's a good psychological threat.

If the guys you're attacking have a minigun, what else do they have?

scrounge the ammo you can off of it, remove the barrels for other firearms of the same caliber, and leave the rest. Even in an Anti-Raider role it's existence in your base is questionable at best. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

A lack of accuracy in a gun made to quadrupal a target's internal capacity of lead is a weakness?

That's a strength of those sorts of weapons. Yes you consume a lot of ammo but the effect is the ability to destroy anyone and almost anything with the sheer volume of material being sent downrange.

Granted the weight alone would make this impractical in anything other than a base or mounted on and aircraft or other vehicle but I don't think you can list innaccuracy as a fault with this sort of weapon.

And on the flip side a half a second from a minigun and your boy (and his rifle) are an impersonation of salsa with toothpicks.

See how that works?

When it comes to gunfights there is no safe zone. Both weapons with the right setup can and have devastated armies.

Armies armed to the teeth.

You can get the same effect out of a M240 with less weight and more maneuverability (based off the 7.62mm minigun, since the 20mm and 30mm variants are generally mounted in aircraft).

And a M-14 (I know, not a bolt-action) firing the same ammo will be able to reach out and touch that gunner without them able to get a shot off. And that DMR just used one round to do what the minigun would burn hundreds trying to accomplish.

I'm also not sure, but I don't it would be likely for you to be able to "pull the barrels," and even if you could there's only one firing mechanism, so I don't know what you'd do with the rest.

I just see the minigun as a waste of time, space and ammo. If I want rapid fire 7.62mm, give me a M-240. Worked for my gunner throughout Iraq.

Actually the mini-gun is way more accurate than the M240 series A) the weight doesn't allow much movement, B) Rate of fire....C) Barrels...though that ties in with Rate

I'd use it for intimidation purposes. If I can get my hands on one of these and alot of ammo, I wonder what other military hardware is lying around. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

As far as I know Mini-guns are only mounted on aerial vehicles (Helos) so personal weapons from the pilots and gunners probably

What's going to happen when you start getting a minigun shot at you? Are you going to be able to keep calm and make the shot while 500 rounds zip by your head?

The moment that he zeroes your position and starts shooting is the moment you realize "Holy crap, he has a minigun!"

There's been some limited usage on ground vehicles, and they're considering reviving the 5.56mm Microgun as a CIWS weapon for tanks and APCs.

Don't the Minis run off 24 volt systems? Could be a b!tch on the ground vehicles. That'd be cool.

Usage as in testing or actually in combat?
