Pioneer Weekend

I'm in the emergency preparedness business and one the basics is that you have to exercise your plan if you expect to use it. Just putting something down on paper "does not a good plan make".

Anyway, my wife and I have decided to have Pioneer Weekends once a month. We have a farm with a barn that can be used for sleeping and have purchased a kerosene stove and lantern in addition to coleman equipment we have used for camping in the past. We also have a supply of raw grain stockpiled. The idea is to use the unfamiliar equipment and raw grain to sustain us for the weekend. That means to grind the grain and bake bread using the kerosene stove/oven or an iron kettle over a campfire.

We also plan on shooting our various weapons to keep our skills up and also to make sure they are functioning properly. During hunting season we will hunt and (hopefully) prepare wild game.

My kids and their kids (I'm old) are also encouraged to participate.

So far it has been fun and our learning curve is going in the right direction (up)!
