Why would it be a good idea to sleep in a locked bathroom? All you're doing is trapping yourself in small room with a (most likely) flimsy door. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

Bathroom doors are usually fairly thin, and not fire rated unless the owner has spent the extra cash. The lock is typically held in place by four two-millimetre screws that are twelve to fifteen millimetres in length.

One good shove is usually enough to get through there.

And once you are in a bathroom, there is usually no other door to use as an exit. There may be a window, but modern apartments put the bathroom in the centre where there is no window. This saves space, but makes the bathroom a poor shelter.

As for a vehicle, the windows in it are vulnerable. You can be seen long before you are alerted to a hostile presence.

Not necessarily. In the open at least you can run.

On the outskirts in a ditch with some cover is much better than a bathroom, and if you derped up enough to get stuck in an unfamiliar city by yourself it is the better option. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

It really depends on the area.

I'd probably stick to being well hidden before secure. You could Hide in a bank vault, but once you are in there is only one way out. Personally I'd probably sleep in an industrial area on top of some steel racking. Keeping things stacked in front of me .

Again, one entrance, and usually built without a door, just a doorway. Any that have a door can't be locked without a key, which you won't have.

I agree. Finding somewhere up and out of the way is the way to go. Keeping in mind that one thing all zombies have in common is at least a reluctance to climb unless with good reason. Also, you don't want other survivors coming in looking for stuff, and finding *your* stuff while you sleep. The ditch idea is a good one, too. In suburbia, a corner of a backyard could possibly work - it's easy enough to jump most backyard fences but they provide good concealment.

I would just sleep on top of a house. I could jump off any which way and I don't think the normal zombies would see me or be able to get up. Do you find this valuable?

On that note. I would advise running a fishing line or string from the door to your toe or finger. Or setting a bottle on the door knob.

One thing I've always wondered is can they get in Pull doors? I mean they're supposedly brain-dead and therefore couldn't pull open a door, at least in theory.

The frame and hinges can still break.

I never sleep alone if I can help it...but if I were alone I would not trap myself in an attic...or a basement...or a bathroom...or even a small car.

If I were unlucky enough to still be in a city or town after dark...I would hope that I was just slightly more prepared than some D-bag who thinks sleeping in an unlockable public bathroom is a good idea. Offering advice that would get people killed is just like pulling the trigger yourself.

I guess the best course of action would be to not get caught unprepared inside a town or city. Get out well before dark to a safer place so you don't have to worry about getting trapped at all.

Go watch Apocalypse Man on youtube. "Fruity" Rudy does a good job of explaining what to look for, it's either part 1 or 2 IIRC. Do you find this valuable?

Personally I'd say that if you're traveling through a city (For whatever reason) you should try and get out before nightfall. If you already live in a city and are laying low it would probably be a good idea to fortify your house and find a good defense able spot in there to stay while the chaos and death dies down.
If I didn't have the keys to said vehicle I wouldn't exactly want to sleep in it. I'm out in the open with nothing but glass and thin metal between me and a raider's bullets. As stated before a bathroom is a one way ticket in most cases.
If I could break into buildings I would say to try and find one with a low profile attic and sleep up there (I know that could be a one way ticket too but I think that's quite a bit better). Otherwise I'd say to pick the most inconspicuous place to bed down for the night. Pick somewhere out of the way that won't draw attention and make sure you have a means of escape.
Sleep lightly and don't do anything to draw attention to yourself. That's what I'd do at least.
