nice looking carbine, but good?
Sep 16 2011, 1:13 AM EDT | Post edited: Sep 16 2011, 1:13 AM EDT
Hey everyone, just found an interesting lever-action rifle/carbine: the Kel-Tec SUB-2000. It may use 9mm Luger or 40 S&W ammunition(depending on the version you buy), which makes it easier to find available ammo around (in the case of an outbreak). Look's like a great weapon to have, but anyone owns one or knows how good it is? In the case I could get in my hand's one or another carbine/rifle that uses pistol rounds, would you recommend this one or another? Do you find this valuable?

Lol, don't worry. We all say embarrassing things on occasion. I think there's a few users on here who own them, if I remember who they are I'll send them your way.

It's a lightweight gun that folds in half for easy storage. It takes popular pistol magazines and you can order them to take the same magazines as a Glock (That's what I'd do at least).
I don't know much about reliability but I hear good things so far.
I wouldn't really use one as a main weapon because of the limitations of pistol cartridges but for close up defense you could do a whole lot worse.

They're decent (if ugly) guns, and as danny pointed out if you plan to buy a Glock/Sig/Beretta you can get one that will share mags with your pistol. The Glock compatible versions seem to be the easiest to find.

I think it'd be great for a lightweight BOB gun. Hi-Point has a carbine you could also look at, but it doesn't fold and it only uses Hi-Point mags as far as I'm aware. A plus to using Glock mags is they're easy to find.

Yeah, that's the main reason why it catched my eye,the mag availability; and yes, the Glock compatible would be my choice. I truly would use it as my main. And 2wheeled, I took a look at the Hi-Point one, but the only thing I liked from it were the accesories (the 4x looks interesting and a laser would be good) but I still prefer the SUB. If I could get similar accesories for the SUB, I sure as hll would try to get one. Thanks everyone!!! Do you find this valuable?

What about a Just Right Carbine, it is more like an AR, that accepts glock mags Do you find this valuable?

You can buy scope mounts and various rails etc. to attach stuff to the Sub-2000, KelTec has some on their site and I'm sure you can find others online.

If you want to keep your pistol ammo and rifle ammo the same in a compact size carbine, it is perfect. However, I would be concern about the range outside of the city when CQB is less likely. You can always setup a near ambush with it but near ambushes may not end with your original goal. My preferences are the Keltec RFB (above $1K solution) and the Keltec SU-16C (SU-16 heavy barrel and below $1K solution) without accessories. With accessories, you are probably looking around $2K+ and $1K respectively.

Nice carbine, but I prefer folding models, so the SUB looks like a better choice to me

The SU-16C can fold and fire from the folded position.

Keep in mind, the SU-16 accepts standard Stanag and C-mag Beta mags that included 30, 40, and 100 round magazines.

Although, the weapon can no longer be folded with the 40+ round magazines.

Note: The C-mag has reports of reliability problems so you will need to make sure it works well with your weapon.

What frag-12 said, it can be fired folded and its more powerful, the SUB-9/2000 can't.

FYI, the SUB-9 is the older, steel version, the 2000 is polymer

The SUB-2000 was one of those guns designed for cops to throw onto their passenger seats and share mags with their sidearms when their department frowns on carbines, or if the carbine is just too far away in the trunk.

The SUB is basically a way to extend your bang for the buck. It is legally not an SBR, so you have 16'' barrel to boost your velocity and range a bit - this also alters the performance of your ammo, JHPs penetrate less, FMJ penetrates more.

Whereas the SU-16 is supposed to be a cheap AR-15 alternative that rivals the Mini 14 for price. It looks pretty decent from what I've seen.

Pyro, if you feel comfortable with it, then you should get it. Like everything else, if you like it, you will do better with it.
