Ok i will admit i am a book hoarderI try to at least once a month go to the second hand book stores and pick up any books that i can see being useful and of course the new book stores I download service manuals for old engines cars boats fire arms you name it if it's some thing available in my country and may be useful i try to get a service manual for it i just went to the local tree huger book store and bought a few books about how to build mud bricks, organic gardening and so on. Do you guys see any long term value in books post Apox i was thinking they may be useful as a trade item 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Not the most useful trade item, IMO they're too big to have just for that purpose. Long term use to teach new generations. Also having plenty of books let people without the skills now to learn skills they need. Another underestimated use is entertainment. Do you find this valuable? |

I am a book hoarder as well, I just wish mine were more usefull lol. As far as trading is concerned, they may be too big and heavy to just carry around and i doubt id want to trade away my books anyway unless i really needed to lol.Where do you download the service manuals anyway, I may have to check it out lol? Do you find this valuable? |

I will never trade books like that, crappy romance novels maybe, but the useful ones I would keep for educating future generations

"Not the most useful trade item, IMO they're too big to have just for that purpose. How much would books containing detailed information on how to build things the old way or how to farm using old world practices or a book detailing what native plants you can use and what you can use them for. How much would they be worth to a community starting over post Apox thats the sort of trading i intend to use them for the entertainment value is immense its also why i have the complete works of Shakespeare stashed safely away every one loves a good show Do you find this valuable? |

I would only trade a book if I was fairly sure I knew as much as the book taught on whatever subject. That or I would write down some very detailed notes of what I found usefull. I am a fan of the old Foxfire series of books. They were intented to be a cultural collection of the mountain people hereabouts (made by well supervised and edited teenagers). So, while not survival books, per se, they end up cover a host of day to day activities that will be useful in a survival situation from old people who spent most of their lives in such a situation.
