BOL in Searsmont Maine - a home away from home!

Anyone in or around the Belmont, Morrill, Hope, Appleton, Lincolnville, Camden/Rockport, or Liberty areas? For all you rugged Maine livers, the natural choice would be the unnamed logging territory out in the middle o' nowhere to head off to, but why that when you could hunker down in the woods, beautiful glacier-carved lake adjacent, of Searsmont? Crystal clear (well, drinkable) and bass abundant Quantabacook lake in southwest ME anyone?

Tons of untouched forest, water, plenty of quiet away from any major town. As of now, 4-wheeler trails have been connected all the way down to Searsport. Its a pretty touristy place - half the cabins on the lake are summer living, including mine. However, its the perfect place for a little agriculture: plenty of arable land, wood aplenty, fresh water literally house-adjacent in a lake which is more of a river (it empties and refills 5 times a year). Wildlife, solitude, tons of empty cabins along the way if you're into all that looting stuff (not like they'll need it).

I invite one and all to scout out a place around the lake, they're taking the old campgrounds and dividing it into timeshares or whathaveyou, which are starting cheap from what I hear. Not any real work or industrial places nearby but the road goes right on up to Belfast. Even if S never HTF for us, it's an absolutely amazing place to spend some quality vacation time in the summer. We built from scratch when the land was going cheap, and God is it beautiful.

RVE for anyone needing to hunker down for a few days is the General Store right down the road, the only real building in town, across from the fire station. You can't miss it. Anyone there will just need to leave a note on the door or talk to the owner if he's still around, and I'll make daily trips down on foot or bike to check things out. I have a fold-out couch and as long as you don't do anything stupid, we should be fine. 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?
