Major ZSDW Community Project Starting November

Given the rather dramatic rise, internal collapse and eventual scrapping of our once massive list of survival plans I have seen that the ZSDW as a community can carry out massive amounts of
work. (There were over 700 survival plans with written content)

In response to this I believed the ZSDW could unite and begin co-operating on a massive project. Something which no other zombie site has attempted before, something which will set us head and shoulders above the rest.

The Global Survival Guide.

With users coming from the United Kingdom to the United States, from Tai'pei to Toronto, from Mexico to Saudi Arabia the ZSDW has a formidible international userbase. We are a multicultural site lacking multicultural content.

I am proposing that we start a major project. We, as many of the 13'000 of us as I can reach, will co-operate on a survival plan for the world.

If you are in Tunisia where is the best nation to escape to?

If you are Poland will the military be well equipped to deal with an outbreak?

If you are in Canada what language should you speak to avoid angering the locals?

There will be something for everyone!

Are you a language specialist? You could help translate pages or even create short pages on useful phrases for surviving in this country!

Are you a geography nut? Fancy detailing the terrain of a country, giving us a prediction of how far a zombie infection could spread before natural barriers such as mountains slow it down?

Are you a gun guy/gal? Want to research armies around the world at your leisure then debate with other members how well they would go up against a horde of undead?

Are you a writer? You could write some short fiction for each country if you feel inspired by what others have written with their research!

There are about 194 countries in the world give or take a few. Some of these will be extremely interesting to write about, North Korean Zombie Survival Guide anyone?

I'm holding fire on actually starting this until November because I want to have a period of planning and discussion with everyone before we begin.

Hope you are looking forward to this as much as I am!

Forgot to add,

I am looking for community input.

What direction do you want this project to go?

What would you like to see in it?

Anything you think is essential to cover in the project?

I think its a great idea I look forward to the end result

Do you think it would be possible to have a section that kind of sets a standard weapon section for like fire arms and mêlée?
There are so many members from so many different countries with so many laws.
I mean i would love to have an AK47 again but its not going to happen due to fire arm laws so maybe if there was a standard set in some way like say a double barrel shotgun is the minimum if people are wondering what type of firearm to have for a zombie Apox.
Don't get me wrong i don't want it to get to bogged down on firearms alone but it would be good to have a standard set

So maybe it could have a weapon section covering
firearms
bows
mêlée

I would love to see a standard format of a Zombie survival plan with gear, food, weapons travel methods, survival tips and B.O.L all peer reviewed until a general consensus is reached so its work able to most members on a global scale

Sorry for the long winded post i hope it wast confusing

I love this idea! I really think there needs to be more input about survival in a major city. Nothing dismissive, either. 4  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

Great to see your interest!

We already have a section on firearms etc, but it really needs some help along. I'll try and grab you a link as soon as I can find it.

Interesting, city survival, I never thought of that really, survival in different kinds of cities. Sounds good! Keep the ideas coming!

I think itd be cool to have a section for typical weather patterns in a given area. For example the weather in Indiana is usually "Who f*ckin knows, and its about to change anyway." 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

Another brilliant idea to include, weather patterns over areas! Excellent work, we can link our main articles on winter survival etc in with this massive global guide!

Great, definitely go for it! You may have to read up on gun laws around the world, but you'd also get a chance to look at army's equipment around the world.

Wouldn't it be better to focus on geographical regions I.e the British isles or western Europe because the actual nations are going to dissolve when the SHTF no? I mean that's pretty much a given.

Take someone in central France, they will experience all the same problems as everyone else south of the Baltic and north of the Pyrenees. Gun laws and minor cultural differences aside (sautéed rat served with last years potatoes au gratin dauphinois and a cheeky little rainwater)

Good idea, I think we could do geographical locations with countries as we know them acting as sub-categories.

I understand were you are coming from and I like the sound of it. However, if the outbreak is confined to one or two countries or you need help with the local area I think a country guide would be useful as well.

I mean, if you took the Korean Peninsula as an example the sheer differences in dealing with infected between North and South Korea would be phenomenal and may actually lead to the border surviving the apocalypse.

Or even if you took Southern Europe as a region, the difference between Italy and Spain, or even Bulgaria is too vast to group together in one box as such.

I do want to incorporate geographical locations though and some smaller countries could be merged into one area where there is much similarity. North Africa for instance? Or Central America? It would certainly save covering the 20 or so small states that exist there. But yes, good idea Frank.

One of the things I'm working on for firearms is weapons that are more common in Europe and South America; one of these is detailing more military arms, as I've focused mainly on military equipment of the US and Canada.

Okay I was actually playing with a thought for a while, now that you mention; I was going to propose this:

A ZSDW zombie survival video.

An entire video with multiple colaborations. Sort of documentary style, with home videos, survival footage, planning, simulations, acting and etc. I was thinking of a large robotchicken style video, with still some humor but specifically geared towards this site with nothing specifically in any order.

So you could have a person do a two minute video of them running with a video camera at night pretending they're being chased and giving a commentary, and the next three minute video is how to arrange your bug out bag. The opportunity is endless.

Just a big trail mix of zsdw with some funny parts.

But I really like the idea and I'd most definatly like to take part. :)

Brilliant ideas! Start up your own thread and I'll feature it, we'll make 2012 the ZSDW's strongest year!

I'm all for participating in it as well. We need someone with good editing skills as well.

What would be handy but i don't know how people could find out is where the safe zones are in different countries.
For an example the state I live in is special quarantine zone in the event of a catastrophic global pandemic meaning no one in no one out tottal lock down and in the words of a government minister in 2006

"must be protected at all cost as a last bastion of hope where our way of life may prevail in the face of great uncertainty"

I guess looking into pandemic planning would be a start
