Most Unconventional weapons? Do you have any?
Oct 3 2011, 1:46 PM EDT
Alright so put some thought into this and well lets take a sledge hammer for starters it has huge stopping power and could definitely smash a zombies skull but to no avail it is a slow weapon, your arms get tired quick and in the case of a miss when you swing your screwed so have any unconventional weapons that could make a good weapon if they wern't so dang heavy, bulky and maybe just plain useless unless using them for a survival task other than taking out zombies?

Anything can be brought into use as an improvised weapon. Some things are more effective than others. For example, picture a folding steel chair. The average person will see something to sit in or maybe rest stuff upon, but I see a distraction, a way to make a doorway difficult to pass through, and a way to whack someone from a distance, and even a cooking surface if placed over a fire. Is it a good weapon? Well... not really, but it grants the user a way to jab at someone without easily being hit back due to superior reach. A sledgehammer can certainly be weaponized, but I wouldn't swing it at a moving bipedal target because it's too cumbersome. I'd probably thrust with it, as the weight and composition of the head is certainly enough to break jaws, knock out teeth and screw someone's face up without having to swing it like I'm splitting logs. A good jab or two to the face or torso is going to put someone out of the fight. SIDE NOTE: For future reference, if you use good grammar and punctuation, people will better understand what you're trying to write about. Break that post down into a few sentences and it will be much more comprehensible. Welcome to the site! ~LJ 6 out of 8 found this valuable. Do you? |

I've been toying with the idea of a couple of people using some thick comforters and duct tape. Throw the comforter over the zombie, secure around the feet with tape. Seems simple right? I doubt they could bite their way out. I'm sure the tape would give way eventually but the users could be long gone by then. Edit* - How about a toaster in a pillow case? I remember some King book used that one. 1 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

You are correct. I'm very sorry for not breaking it down and using proper grammar. I wrote it on a whim and didn't think much of it. Also thank you for the welcome but I am a previous member my ex stole my e-mail account that I used to register. I forgot my password on top of that so I have been a member for 2 years but had to make a new account. thank you very much for the feedback it is much appreciated

The most unconventional weapon I have lying around my place is a meat hook my stepdad nabbed from a slaughterhouse he was delivering to. Its about 2 feet long with a large pointed hook on one end and a smaller dull hook on the other. It looks wicked, but it would easily get lodged in a zombie's flesh, so I doubt its effectiveness.

Meh, the most unconventional "weapon" I have is a rock hammer with a pick end. I've stuck it through several bricks and slabs of concrete so I'm pretty sure I could stick it through a skull without to much trouble.

In a pinch anything is better than bare hands.. even a pointy stick..I got a tire iron kicking around the house, a couple of crowbars and a few rather large wrenches. The wife has been nagging me to get the tire iron out of the living room for the last 2 weeks.. I used to have it in my BOB until I replaced it with another more usefull tool. Even a fireplace poker will do a number on anything it hits. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Not sure how unconventional it is, but my Monadnock PR-24 is coming with me for sure.

@ LJ-126: Great advice about the sledge! Thanks for reminding me!@ Unassigned: Damn the right the PR-24! I'd take that with me too. Damn useful those things. I wouldn't consider it unconventional though. My MAG-Lite may not be the best "weapon" but in a pinch I know it can be used for crackin' some skulls. Bar of soap put into a sock? LOL or hows about a billiards table pool ball? I'll give 'em a taste of the cue ball right off of my table down in the basemeant! If anyone has watched the movie "Narc", Ray Liotta did one helluva number on that really big guy when he started wailing on him in the station. Do you find this valuable? |

I think the least conventional but effective weapon that Maricely and I have here is a 2x D-Cell Maglite LED that I got her for her last birthday. There's no doubt in my mind that it could put a serious amount of pain on someone in a pinch. That light has come in really handy too - it's become our go-to light when we need to see at night.

Slingshots! I guess they aren't that unconventional in that, it's pretty firmly established in the publics consciousness thanks to characters like Dennis the Menace or Bart Simpson, but it can be taken above and beyond the juvenile hellraiser arsenal. Plus, it's a decent compact hunting weapon (for small game of course) if you're skilled.I'd give JoergSprave's Youtube channel a gander. He's made some impressive gadgets that definitely got the gears in my head turning. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I have a lot of real weapons. I guess its for that reason I have never really thought about using any unconventional item as a weapon.I have a couple of chainsaws. Not intended to be used as a weapons...but they could be. I also have a military issue E-tool. Not a weapon...but could be in a pinch. I guess my most unconventional weapon...is sarcasm...which doesn't really work all that well in a text based format. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"I have a lot of real weapons. I guess its for that reason I have never really thought about using any unconventional item as a weapon.LOL nice! Yeah I guess I forgot to mention my Coghlan's folding shovel too. It's a damn good one and unlike some folders out there, this one actually stays when you lock it in place. Chainsaw, probably not the best of course because if you use the wrong side (the side where the chain comes back around to pass through the unit) of the saw, then you may well get infected. They can of course be used and if you are immune from infection, then you better have a decent change of clean clothes handy for afterwards. Of course, if you know you are absolutely positively going to die no matter what.... might as well take as many of them down with you as you can. I guess maybe a hazmat, military-issue NBC suit OR biohazard would be a great investment for those who are hardcore determined to use a chainsaw come Z-Day. Do you find this valuable? |

What first comes to mind are my two favorite tools. A WWII E-Tool and my custom hatchet. My Grandfathers E-Tool has a sharpend edge with a optional pick depending on configuration. Yet my favorit will have to be my custom hatchet. Its 3ft long with a pick on the back end and handle comes to a 3 1/2in taperd pick. Handle is binded in the sheething of an old firehose. I keep it straped to my turnout gear. Makes a useful tool during operations at a fire scene and I know it will be an effective weapon is close combat.

Well, should Z-Day happen while I'm at work, I've looked around the floor, and since I don't want to wield..a printer...my options quickly got narrowed down. There are two large, hefty free-standing coat racks in the corner, and I already picked one up, felt it, angled both ends to test the handling of the stabbing end and the pushing end (base). Either way, in a pinch, to get to my car and home, I think it'd work on keeping zeds out of my way...

I have a laser that sets paper on fire, it's a fun way to start a fire and could probably set clothes alight and blind someone, but burning zombies are usually more of a threat than regular zombies.
