GENERALLY i would steer clear of a mall, although i am now considering it because the mall i live right next to(500yards) has a special something. a CABELAS yes thats right. A zombie killers paradise.
I believe if i could succesfully get a supply vehicle to the front door i could gather enough weapons, ammunition, gear, and food to survive many months.

Things i would target while getting supplies from cabelas!
1- GUNS!! and ammo. cabelas gun library offers a large selection of weapons and ammo. needlesss to say i would stock up on assault rifles. in particularly a blackwater ordinance ar-15 in .223:))
2-Clothing- cabelas would have a wide selection of backpacks, cold weather clothing, camoflauge ghillie suits and a wide range of zombie proof clothing. gaurenteeing your survival through winter months.
3- Jerky! and lots of it. dried meats and packaged MRE's would be plentiful and could sustaine one person (maybe two if i bring along the tiny gf) for multiple months.
4- fishing hunting gear- these items can put fresh food on the table when all the mre's have been eaten up.

***My tactic is simple***
Get to cabelas
Eliminate all ZEDs in the store(Crowbar and a .22 colt woodsman can be unbelievably lethal)preferably crow bar or other melee weapon to decrease chances of being detected by zeds in the surrounding area.
Get a **** load of guns, ammo, knives, food, and survival gear
Load all equipment in a waiting cargo vehicle out front.
Get out of the city

thats my plan and im sitcking to it

i understand that gathering those supplies is a extremely high risk situation but it is one that may pay off in the long run.
in the event that i did get over run while stocking up on supplies, i would get to the second floor of cabelas and start killing MOFO's on the staircase!

and even if this technique fails, atleast i would die in cabelas. every mans dream.

Just a tid bit on Cabelas

In 2010 they had 2.6 Billion dollars income. 53% of that came from their retail stores. That would be 1.36 Billion. They had 31 stores. That is 43,870,967 (that's million) each. Lets assume that the average sale is $300. That means 146,236 other people know about your survival spot. They all recognize the value of the goods there. They all have a pretty good idea of what is there and how to use it. Further assume that only 1% of them have/will think of going to the Cabelas store. That gives you 1,462 to fight with for the last package of freeze dried macaroni and cheese.

Compare that to your own home.

Never would've thought about it like that. Makes a whole lot of sense though. Bet you could think of a lot of places like that. Parks, traffic counters and such could give similar numbers as long as you account for tourist and such.

Side note: I better get a shout out for the title idea lol.

i do agree with you on the fact that other people will be there
the town i live in is relativly small 130,000 residents.
But, i am fortunate (or unforunate) enough to live within 300 yards of the cabelas.
hoping to get a jump on the majority of these people i feel confident i could deal with most things that would come in my way.

Ah, I see. Only 130,000 residents. If the average sale were $300 then every resident in your town went to Cabellas at least once last year. Now obviously not every one spent that much. Let's say some one bought a PowerBar for $5 and some one bought a Canoe for $1200 that would give an average of $602, but we know that they sold way more PowerBars than canoes. They sold alot of packs at $120 and some tents at $300 and some water filters at $50. Lets go with one each of those - that gets us to $300 average again.

Let us assume then that, only 1 tenth of 1% of your town heads for Cabellas. That is still 130 people. Let's assume that half of them are filthy rich teenagers. You now have 65 adults. They all spent $300 there, so that could be a rifle each. Let's say that only 1/10 th of them think to go at sudden onset, just like you. That is 6 bullets from six directions.

Between now and the Zpoc, what can you store in your own basement? 3 cases of MRE's (like cabellas has) a tent (like the one in cabellas), a fully fitted BOB (Cabs may have the bag, but it isn't ready to go), 48 liters of water (Cabs has a faucet at the mop sink, better hope its sanitary), 1/2 cord of firewood (have to chop up Cab's walls I guess)?
Come on! You got $300 to spend this year at Cabs. Why wait for Zpoc to go there?

Is it really that much simpler to say you are going to have a showdown at Cabs than to take some actual action?

(Incidently I am not rich, but my annual survival budget is $540 - I used to spend that on video games)

the only reason i am waiting until Zpoc is because i cant get away with looting a cabelas gun library right now ;P

i have many of the things i need to survive that situation. but its hard to beat having a wide range of firepower, and alot of it!
to me, taking on a handful of civilians/walkers and getting pricless guns and ammo is a worthwhile trade.
im hoping the ones smart enough to know about cabelas will stay home
and the ones stupid enough to leave their home in a zombie infested city will be dumb enough for me to defend myself from.
i know its a very risky situation, but in the apocolypse, eh i dont have much to lose. Ill be chain smokin cigs like a MOFO anyways.

suppose that is a little contradicting. i just feel the benefit of a huge sack of guns and ammo outweighs the risks of running 600 yards.

I am a fairly strong guy. You might be stronger than I. I think Im going to top out at about 40lbs in each hand for a 300 yrd sprint. At 7 pounds per rifle and a half pound per 20 rounds----01011010 crunch crunch crunch ---- you get to run out with 5 rifles and 450 rounds. Now If I am going to walk that 300 yard I might increase the load. But, there be zeds out there man!

I usually use 2 hands to carry an 80 pound sack of cement.

Cabs has through packs, I suppose you could get another 80 pounds on your back. That huge load of guns and ammo sounds like death to me.
