Weapons Storage?
Oct 17 2011, 6:22 AM EDT
One thing I have discovered is a lack of articles relating to how people store and maintain their weapons.Whether is be a locked cupboard or an underground bunker cache, what is your setup?

Firstly,my storage is for a slimmed down collection. Swords and other Melee weapons are stored in my garage/gym hooked on the wall.Guns are in a rifle safe in a small walk in wardrobe with a locked, steel reinforced door and no windows.Handguns are stored in a separate locked compartment at the top of the safe. All guns have trigger locks.I put my 50lb pistol crossbow in a drawer with my other tools in the garage.Bolts are with the ammunition. Can't be assed making room in the safe. I have an old 650fps air rifle,Gewehr 98 and a horrible mutliated sawn off air rifle(thanks to my nephew) on a rack on the other side of the wardrobe. Do you find this valuable? |

"Firstly,my storage is for a slimmed down collection. Swords and other Melee weapons are stored in my garage/gym hooked on the wall.Personally if not forbidden by law I would store the bolts closer to the Crossbow. I take it the trigger locks are because local/state laws. Because a pistol in the safe in a smaller safe and trigger locked is way to many safe gaurds. Thus slower to get in to the ready mode. All but my Rossi 410, 22LR, and BB gun are in my gun chest. Pistols are pre-loaded on top. The 410 is loaded for instant homedefense, 22Lr loaded for instant home defense and varmit control, and the BB for chasing stray dogs away with. My gun chest has a Swedish Mauser 6.5x55, Mosin-Nagant M91/30 7.62x54R, Mosin-Nagant M44 Polish 7.62x54R, Remington Express 870 12ga, another 22LR rifle, Hi-Point 9mm carbine, Taurus 92F 9mm, and Glock 17 9mm. Plus 200rds 6.5, 400rds 7.62, 200rds assorted 12ga, 100rds assorted 410, over 1000rds 22LR, 1000rds 9mm, and about 300 22cal pellets for the pellet gun. Oh ya about 3000 BBs for what ever thats worth. My four fnives are also in the chest including my machete. This way two men can grab my chest and load it up in one of my vehicles if need be. But they are still under a lock door untill needed and covered up in my closet for security sake. But only take a few seconds to get open. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I've got all mine, including my sisters .22 and one of my dads shotguns in one side of a locker. Not with trigger locks, but I think I should probably throw one on each of my guns, at least the pistols...

It also runs through part of his cabinet so they either have to destroy the cabinet or carry the whole thing to get his guns. But then he has only one lock to mess with if he has to access then for what ever reason. Im gonna do the same soon. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Locked closet at home and gun safe at my farm. Weapons are unloaded except for carry pistol. No locks on indivdual weapons because if they are locked up in a safe. I think tigger locks are unnecessary, of course I don't have any children living at home. My state does not have any restrictions on firearms in the home. We also have the castle law which means if you come on to my property (including vehicle) with intent to do harm, I have the right to blow you away. No charges can be filed against me (including civil law suits). 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Would help with the over crouded prisons and jails. Instant judge and jury. Guilty till shot dead. I have a 13yr girl(14 in days), 11yr boy(12 14days later), and 11yr girl(12 in 6 mths). Mine being locked is more for guest kids than mine. The shotgun and 22LR rifle are up high so my youngest and young kids cant access. My Taurus 92F and Hi-Point are usually in my car when gone to work. Then put in my gun chest when home. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Right now since it is still legal to own firearms in the US I have mine stored in a locked closet with trigger locks, one XD 45 beside my bed in a single gun biometric safe for self defense, and I carry that same one during my trips away from the house. My compound bow is just hanging on a gun rack in my room. My intentions is to buy a gun safe to store them in once I have my office built on to my house within the next few years. Also, if it ever comes to firearms being illegal in the USA, I am going to invest in some large PVC pipe and some silca packets to reduce moisture and bury the things in my horse pasture... hypothetically speaking of course. lol 1 out of 1 found this valuable. If they make it illegal they will probably search properties and they will use detectors if they think your hiding them. My property has 100s of old steel pipes and other junk buried all over. Then I dont help by digging short ditches about 6ft deep then dumping scrap metal all along the bottom then rebury it. I have a location set up so if or when I have to bury the weapons I will have it at a place to deep and cluttered for them to easily find them. And I will ahve more than location. All hypothetically speaking of course. lol Do you find this valuable? |

The main part of my collection I keep in a room where I built a wall across the one end with a door that can also be locked and that I have a flag hanging over. Sort of a hidden room that while I am sure wouldn't escape detention on a good search is better then nothing. I have had people in the house befor that stood right there and never knew about the room behind the flagMost of my long arms lean against the wall but do have a floor to ceiling rack that hold some of my better muzzleloaders. Have a big antique wood standing tool chest about 6 ftt tall with lots of drawers [sort of like a modern Snap On but oak] . Drawers are lined with felt. I keep most of my handguns and my better knives and hatchets in it Have a WWI foot locker for some of my web gear and holsters' I keep a couple pistols and a few long arms like an AR and 870 riot loaded in my bedroom Have a closet in the bedroom filled with part guns or ones that need work. Have a tek 9 pistol in the bathroom towel closet Keep a short Doulbe 12 shotgun leaning inside an antique coffen I have out in the corner of my living room Have some guns out in my workshop and in my barn, mostly rough cheap stuff, did find a winchester 37 shotgun and a Mauser sporter that I forgot I had out in the barn the other day when I was looking for some blacksmith tools Do you find this valuable? |

So i may need to look into putting them at a remote location buried under something that would keep someone from accidentally finding them. As you said Hypothetically of course. lol 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

If his FFL expires or gets revoked they will come collect the records. Now dont know if they are destroyed or just stored from there. But if they ever become banned they will turn all those records into a registration of sorts and go gun hunting. Oh ya I have a couple ruined non-salvageable weapons in a leaky PVC on my property. thats so if they go searching they will eventually find them and think I just didnt do it right and these are my cache. Hopefully it convinces them to move on and lkeave my real caches alone. Hypothetically of coarse lol 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

We keep ours in a cheap safe just to keep the kids away from them and to help deter their theft.Eventually when I get a BOL i intend to use old gas cylinders as vaults that I can sink into the concrete and purge with nitrogen. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |
