How my survival plan would change if I didn't have any access to weapons. Probably not much, I plan on staying put for as long as possible. When I do have to go out I will try to avoid any problems and I have plenty of axes, hammers, pipe, machetes, and other defensive tools. Along with two bows and over 40 arrows [ 1 - compound and 1 - re-curve], I also have a 180# cross bow with 32 bolts. The bows will be for hunting in my plan anyway, due to being quieter than my guns. I don't plan on moving a lot, probably sticking to this area. I would probably get to the Amish out side of town to scavenge a riding horse and pack horse or a horse and buggy for farther travels. {Yes I know how to care, "drive" and ride horses from growing up on a farm with several horses} With or without a gun I don't plan on going hunting for zombies, but to avoid them as much as possible and only fighting when I have no other choice. "Surgests going to a decent musium and pondering the vast number of tools, weapons, arms and techniques that humans have used to cause mayhem over our long and bloody history. . . Such single minded ingenuity is quite inspiring, unlike much of this forum where a stranger could be forgiven for thinking that the katanas were the pre-gunpowder equivilent of nuclear weapons (a distinction that would fall to something much more banal like the stirrup).Okay I understood the last line of that. :P Translate? "You're gonna have to be real nice and quiet. That's for sure. I would also give EVEN MORE consideration for cardio, running and all-out sprinting in case ragers start running around everywhere like in 28 days later and 28 weeks later.Yeah, Japan is extremely strict about civilian ownership. I know airsoft is legal and has a big following but that's about the worst you can hope to get your hands on. Personally, my plan would really remain largely unchanged, but would become more flighty. I plan to stay mobile and avoid confrontation by being gone before the zombie masses can get on to my group's presence, and that would just be of higher importance without firearms to even the odds. Weapon wise, I'd just try to focus on legal, multi-purpose weapons. I've often heard the saying a good mechanic is the one who makes the wrong tool do the right job, and that would about be it for me. A pry bar, breaker bar, small sledge hammer or mallet, a long screwdriver, a jack handle, etc; all of them are sitting out in our toolbox and are legal to own the world over as far as I know. They're all made of metal, all need no electric or ammunition, and none of them go dull. And all of them have other uses making them desirable as tools as well as improvised weapons. 90% of my planning is not based around my firearmsI see owning firearms as a luxury even though i do like them i knew that making all my plans around having them could be suicide i have taken steps to ensure a continued food supply by ensuring i have enough food stuff growing at home with a seasonal adjustment to over lap each other plus have establish gardens in several other locations that will have fruit at different times of the year so its all not in one place i have encouraged the local trout population in the stream on my property to grow nicely and i have let the wildlife establish itself on my property without shooting it so i get deer come down from the Forrest to drink from the stream i own several recurve bows I keep my workshop well stocked with parts that can be used for many things There are several tools that can be used as weapons if need be i have done as much as i can to keep my property to a low profile and hard to locate so i rely on stealth and difficulty to reach as part of my defense Do you find this valuable? |

In a world of fantasy people fantasize about what they want, you'll never get a gun lover to do away with their guns, and you'll really never get me fired up about owning one. =^_^= I'd have to say that my plans would be about 50x better if guns were taken out of the equation all together. Without guns raiders would resort to melee and archery/thrown weapons which would mean I would undoubtedly be using my spear/javelins/axe/cleaver/mace and shield arsenal. Its a lot heavier than relying on a woodcutting axe/bearded axe and cleaver but it'd be perfect for going up against either humans or zombies if guns were out of the equation. Also, my melee weapons skills and javelin throwing, running ability and sneaky demeanor would actually be essential instead of 20th rate to everyone else. =^_^= Heck, even my recurve might see plenty of use. As it is right now in the most gun permeated country in the world, I see myself as bordering on "Non-Combatant" status. Do you find this valuable? |
