what if the school has protected windows and exits?
Oct 20 2011, 4:13 PM EDT
You make a good point about the exits. Although the school nearest me has grates on every ground floor window bolted into the concrete so the windows cannot be broken as there's only a few millimeters of space. It is an elementary school with two floors and each exit has steel doors and the exposed windows are very small and have wire in the double paned glass so that even if broken no one can get through. I find those windows a lot more secure than anything that can be boarded up in a standard school. 5 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you?

Okay, you've managed to get in because they actually left at least one door unlocked. What about your food and water? 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

There's still the matters of power, water, food, and accessibility.

yea i would have to agree with the other posts but if you did manage to have a decent amount of food and a way in and not very many people to worry about then you would have one hell of a fortrise and i would band with you if i was in the area. by any chance is this school in a city or large city because this can really kill the whole plan

If they can contain a situation, you don't need to find a BOL. If they can't, then they will essentially be a nest of zombies. 5 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

My school has 3 floors. the top floor is a dormitory. there are 3 narrow, easily barricadable staircases coming up to the third floor, and two elevator shafts. my school is made almost entirely out of steel reinforced concrete. at either end of our third floor, which has about 80 individual rooms with sturdy locking doors, are two balconies. they are almost ideal sniper positions. It's pretty defendable. But the biggest problem with my school, and most schools, is that they are almost always in an urban area. My is in the downtown of a fairly large city. So unless a school is in the middle of nowhere, AND is highly defendable, then i don't thinkit's a particularly good bet. Get in, raid the dry goods and nurse's office, then get out. and steal a school bus if you can. Do you find this valuable? |

Have you ever broken into, hotwired, and driven a bus before?

I know how to, but I've never actually had to attempt it. I can drive one. They're fairly easy to get into, and they're an old design so hotwiring them would not be particularly difficult if you can figure out how to do it.

I think the most basic issue is that if any place is secure to build in to, it's going to be difficult to take and use unless you own it already. That's why most fortresses are built from homes.
