there is never a end just new uses such as a worn dowen tires(mud helps this) can be used as a brick to build with broken dowen cars can be used to make a last ditch barricade and motors can be melted dowen into something new

"there is never a end just new uses such as a worn dowen tires(mud helps this) can be used as a brick to build with broken dowen cars can be used to make a last ditch barricade and motors can be melted dowen into something new"This makes no sense. I have no idea what you are trying to say. Please write more clearly. If we can't understand you, we can't understand you. 2 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

Explain to me your method of melting down a Motor......I mean everything. how you're going to get it out. What kind of fuel you're going to use to melt it down. What your going hold molten metal in? Most of all how to do this without weakening the metal?

It seems that he is trying to discuss the various "recycling" uses for obsolete motor vehicles post-apoc. In particular, using tires and mud as brick and mortar, using the vehicle body as fencing, and melting the motor block down as slag for general smithing purposes.I would suggest that not only was the thread unfortunate, so were his choices in use. The tires are good for fuel, container gardening, or erosion control on earthworks. Older cars have a good deal of metal piping in them - great for making stills. Modern cars tend to have more rubber hoses - good for fuel. If you are looking for metal, the engine block is not where to go. That would require a sizeable furnace and crucible to recast. Instead, go for metal already in a useful state - the metal siding can be cut with metal shears (big scissors) and bent into useful things. The suspension is made of spring steel which could be used for an improvised ballista or ground down into serviceable machetes. If you want bullets, the battery will have a nice supply of lead in it. The process is simple - melt the lead over a fire in anything else (bending a pour spout into the top of a small sauce pan will work). Lead melts at a low temp, so when it is liquid, pour it into a mold shaped as you need. You can buy casts for specific bullets or use an appropriate sized drill and a 2x4 and carve your own. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

I have to disagree. TO me there is no reason whatsoever to build a furnace big enough to melt down engine blocks. It would be far too much of a waste of fuel, time, and effort when you could just find a steel supplier and they'll have warehouses of **** ripe for the taking.Stills need to be made from copper or stainless steel. Never use old car lines or radiators in their manufacture if there is the possibility of anyone drinking it. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

We get the point we're just trying to teach you that the uses you've came up with for the items above are some of the worst ways to recycle those products. You have to remember that this will be a Survival situation you'll want to take the path of least resistance. People have given you better (much better) uses for your old Cars & Tires (I'd just leave the Engines in the cars). Also mud as mortar really? I realize it was used back in the day Adobe and Sod houses, But against an undead hoard I'd try something else. (Like Real Mortar)

I have seen an adobe property wall stop a city bus moving 40mph. I have no problem with the preference of concrete but I wouldn't be knocking adobe. Might also want to keep in mind that adobe isn't just mud bricks. Do you find this valuable? |

Use the engine block for a trap, tie it to rope, let it swing and hit
