Care to elaborate on why? Yes, they're good pistols, but they're very different from Berettas or 1911s. Do you find this valuable? |

Some folks love XD handguns, some folks can't stand 'em. I have never fired mine - it is in my younger brother's possession back in Saint Louis. I can't really say yet if I like it or not. Maybe I'll get a chance to whomp on her some soon...

Maybe I'll get a chance to whomp on her some soon..."Ive tried all sorts of handguns, and currently own or have owned the ones mentioned in ZSWiki's handgun arsenal. Of them all, the XD-45 stands out. I like the 1911 and it is so common as to be a hands down fave in a SHTF scenario. Ditto, the Glocks and Beretta's - common as dirt is good at the end of the world. But there is something about the XD that is sublime. For me it is the utter simplicity, ergonomic feel and dead solid point. My friend came over the other day to bring me some ammo and I showed it to him. Now, this guy is awash in handguns - he has more than even ME! His reaction to the XD? "Damn, that is NICE!" He walked around my house for 10 minutes, doing point and rack drills and was all smiles by the end. He's going to get one, in 9MM. Their sole drawback is they are not wildly popular - they are fairly new and not as ubiquitous as the others. My solution to that is simple: own about 5 of them. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. I've never acquired a taste for Glocks. I'm one of the M9 haters. It's not that it's a terrible pistol really. It's the weight>capactity and weight>caliber and other pistols>capicity:caliber. Plus it's my ONLY duty pistol option... no other models or calibers. I do like 1911's, but more so at the range. The capacity reflects when it was designed just too much. Still loving this Colt 1911A1 though. My XDm 40 will stay for a while. I said that about the XD9 after using it a bit. Then I went to the XDm40. They are great pistols. Handguns TV did a torture test on one over a few episodes. They roped it to the back of a vehicle and let it tumble violently on a rocky gravel road. It not only still functioned fine but was still on. That was the last test after a salt water test and other stuff. Normal capicity 40S&W 16rd OEM magazines are only $25 a piece now. The 9mm is 19+1, that's a whole box of defence ammo in your hand. Not only that, they are amazing pistols. There's a guy on youtube that does reviews and he's become quite popular, Nutnfancy. He's a hardcore Glock guy and still couldn't give it bad review, even constantly comparing it to a Glock. And now that it's been a while, he's spending good money on that XDm and loves it to death. He didn't love the XD so much, but didn't keep it around. It didn't offer quite what a Glock did he didn't think. Just some opinions and a few facts and a reference to a better speaker than I. EDIT: 'last' isn't spelled 'alst' Do you find this valuable? |

I've been waiting for a few months now for my local gun dealer to receive an M9a1, but given the fact that they were only able to receive 4 last year, I opted to look into purchasing another pistol in the meantime. After some research and handling a few different models, I ended up purchasing an XDm 9mm.I'm completely satisfied with this pistol. It feels light and balanced and is easy to wield, has a 19+1 capacity right from the box and I really appreciate the grip and trigger safeties, as I am quite safety oriented. The loaded chamber indicator is also a nice touch but doesn't replace manually checking the chamber. My only preoccupations have been that the gun is made out of the US, which doesn't mean it's inferior, I just like to buy American when I can, and that the gun is DAO. In the event that the pistol is cocked, I'd feel better about having a gun that doesn't have to be dry-fired in order to be uncocked. Those points aside, I'm generally excited by this pistol and would recommend it to others as well. Do you find this valuable? |

I owned one in .45 (had bills to pay so I sold it) and I freaking loved it. Only complaint I had, was that with the last few rounds in the mag, since the weight of the full mag wasn't there, muzzle flip was a little crazy. No more than I would expect from a polymer pistol however.

I'm sure a compensator would help to some degree but overall balance right from the get go is so important. I would like to eventually pick up a .45 down the road, though I'm a fan of smaller calibers, but that's an important factor to consider regarding pistol model and material. I still have my XD-45 and I love it. It has a very natural point and shoot feel to it. Durable, and easy as hell to take apart and put back together. I carry it in my Bronco with me and keep 13 rounds of hp in there. Like treelegs said, there is some kick when you've only got a round or two left, but if you're aware of it and your grip isn't total sh*t, you'll be fine. I have noticed that most of my friends own 9's and after they go through 2 or 3 mags of that, they can't hit squat with the .45. Don't know why, just something I've noticed. They are so used to shooting lighter recoil pistols, that with a heavier one, it throws off their learned recovery process for the next shot. They are too focused on the recoil and not their stance, grip and sight picture. Well that and the trajectory difference of the two rounds could be a factor also. Do you find this valuable? |
