How to find a Good shelter and what to do with it.

Most people when thinking of a good shelter think of home but home is not always the best place to be when in a zombie apocalyps.
Why not ?
Why because most homes are very open for example, A house usually has many windows a few doors and alout of places are not easy to be watched at most times like basement windows roof windows ext.
For anouther example Appartments.
This is usually a closed environment but also a location mostly to be avoided in these situations, Why ?
Appartments usually have only 1 exit good te defend but once breached no escape possible. Anouther reason why is because appartments are usually in crowded buildings where an infection usually spreads faster, and last but not least is when people start to loot they usually go to crowded area's.

What to look for in a shelter :
A closed environment with a max of 2 -3 exits this is easily secured and will give you more time to do outher things than always need to watch your back.
How to choose a right building with the proper exits :
Most people would say Malls, Shopping centre's ext but i would rather choose a place where theres a high security level and not alout of valuable goods in the situation where food,clothes and water are most needed, Like : Banks, Security Agency's, Police Departments ext.
What to look for in securing an exit :
First of all you will need to barricade it but also be able to Reopen it in a fast amount of time 2-3 minutes max Also Two door exits, Not next to each outher but on opposite sides of eachouther with security locks for example when 1 door is open the outher one can't be opened. Also when choosing an exit it would be very convenient if the exit would have the character of a V shape where the V point is the exit and the tips of the V Are pointing to the outside, this gives Defence improvements because it means there is a delay when entering with groups also easily boobytrapped. 7  out of 8 found this valuable. Do you?

Allow me to rebuttle then:

During the opening hours of the Great Panic, many people are going to try to muscle their way into the banks, malls, security agencies, police departments, etc. They have guns, valuables, and obviously, many people will see them as an area of safety to fight to the death over, which means lots of violence from your fellow man, and many zombies concentrated in those places.

Not only that, but places like banks are only secure due to modern technology like sensors to alert security or law enforcement to contain the situation. Which will not happen when SHTF and people will be running out to save their own hides or their loved ones.

Homes are considred the best places for shelter, because obiviously you live in your home and know the layout better then any other building. Homes aren't high on a looter's priority list, they would rather go after places where allt he money and supplies would be located and overlook a home. With that kind of advantanges, all you would have to do is keep quiet, make the house look abandoned and make sure its secure and wait out till things quiet down, then you can either leave to a BOL that has been planned out, or you can fortify your home and live in realitve comfort of your own home.

No matter what kind of Shelter or base you have, no matter how much defenses, the real importance is stealth, that's what keeps from zombies massing your compound, and thats what keeps your BOL off the map from raiders. 4  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

What to do to fortify your exits
Always remember that an exit is also used to exit a building so fortifying it so good that nobody kan enter or exit is not a good idea.
When building a fortification it is best to use what you already have like i mentioned before with a two door exit it is more easy to defend it ussually has a smal corridor witch kan be boobytrapped but for most of you boobey trapping is not an option either to difficult or no explosive material either ways using the most simplest things usualy gives you an advantage.
Bear with me People usualy overlook these kind of things but things like marbels kan be used to defend an exit 20 marbels kan be eassily used to let someone trip or a zombie your choice once something is on the ground killing it is no problem usualy people tend to over think fortification big walls concrete walls but that is very stupid not to offend you but how are you going to exit something something else can't enter ? So forget this as fast as possible.
The only option for a strong fortification is a Portible one in my eyes something that can move like a Car with a Fortifide side or A heavy object With wheels with wheels that kan be locked or just put some wooden pegs in front of them.
Simple Booby traps: Like i said before use your imagination thin of cartoons most things help like a Scrobe light on a entrance try to do what you want with one of those buggers same is for zombies there eyes must work and this could blind them. using the same sticky liquid as they use to trap rats easily placed.
But my advice for fortifying an exit is this :
Use Fortification that is portible so that you can use the exit and fortify it fastly.
Use boobytraps that make your enemy vounerable for a moments
And use Exits that are hard to reach or you have a Special postion Against the enemy.

Rand22 Im sorry i didn;t add this this was meant for a later stadium in the begining a home is a beter place to start but later on a very dangerous place because when the stores are looted the first place they will go are outher peoples houses,
Also Looking at the situation i would stay indoors for about a week or two after that follow my tips Also about the security in a bank the only things you need are the gates and teh gates are usually opend by 1 current closed by 1 current any these are usually the exits you wil be trying to look for and usualy a bank is fed by a back up generator so when having fuel you kan start up a security system.
And also you are talking mainley about large banks if you red my instructions carefully its is ment to be for smaller building 2-3 exits building larger banks do have beter security but also more exits.
Yes stealth is needed but a good Base to its your safe spot and if zombies are conciderd so smart that when they stand before a building that they know there people in it like you metioned it would mean we wont be safe anywhere. 5  out of 6 found this valuable. Do you?
