List - Best Long Range Scopes and Mounts

This page wouldn't be complete without a list of the best equipment you can get for long range shooting. Rather than edit the page, I figured I'd just make a thread so that more people will feel free to contribute. I want to keep this list limited to only what we feel the best equipment money can buy would be.

First of all, I think that ONLY 30mm tube scopes should be used. The cheaper 1" scopes are not as strong, and they have a more narrow field of view.

Scope:
Leupold Mark IV 3.5-10x40mm LR/T M3 Front Focal

I like this scope because it has 65 MOA of adjustment. The parallax adjustment is on the side to make quick adjustments for different ranges. It uses (as I remember) 1/2 MOA adjustments for windage. This may seem pretty coarse for an adjustment, but it allows for faster adjustments with having the turn the scope less amount of clicks.

The elevation adjustment I believe was 1 MOA per click. Since this is the most adjusted knob, it makes it 4 times faster than a normal scope to get elevation set properly. Also it has turrets calibrated for caliber and bullet weight with the ranges clearly marked. So, you don't even have to count clicks. If you range a target at 800 yards you can just turn the elevation turret to "800" and you will be right on target.

Also, the reticle is in the front focal plane. This means the mils will still be "mils" no matter what level of zoom you have the scope set to. No more having to get the scope zoom set just right to accurately range a target.

This scope runs from $1,000-$1,200.

Mounts:
I am a firm believer in LaRue scope mounts. Everything they build is rock solid.

This set of rings is almost $200, but I believe they are worth it. I believe it's impossible to hold a good zero with a cheap set of scope rings.

I also like NightForce scopes, but I have never owned or used one. I have used a Trijicon ACOG, which was 100% trustworthy, but it's not really a long range optic.

If anyone has any other brands/models of scopes and mounts please add to the list. Thanks.

I don't know the first thing about super long range shooting. I don't want to portray myself as knowing something I don't, because I don't really know the first thing about it - other than that I know I can't afford to do it.

This might be the worst reason for me to even list this, but my father was a HUGE fan of Zeiss optics. I remember having a discussion with him back before he had the stroke about his ideal varmint rifle, and one of the only things I remember about it was his exclamation about Carl Zeiss optics.

So... here's what I dug up. Don't know a thing about it, maybe Possum can share his opinions on the scope listed below. You won't offend me in any way by ripping on it, it's not like I have a vested interest or anything.

I've never used Zeiss, but I have never heard anything bad about them. (I could never afford one by the way, lol). The only reason I listed the Leupold is because I had one on a M14 EBR in the Army, I couldn't ever afford one of those either.

From what I hear, Zeiss has about the clearest glass you can get. The features all look comparable to the scope I listed, the Zeiss might even be a little better. It's definitely worth being on the list. Thanks for listing it.
