While I do not know how they hold up to bites, I know many people who have worn them for work. They have been put through hell and back and have yet to wear out for them. In fact, I've heard they soften up and become super comfortable pants to wear.

And being on a ship for 5.5 years, I can attest that the firehoses are insanely durable. We dragged those things across non-skid (which is exteremly rough, think 1/2 pieces of sand on 2 grit sand paper), around 'knife-edges' (sharp edges that waterproof doors seal against) and everything else you can imagine doing on a ship, and they last a long long time before even showing wear, let alone actually taking any damage. And, they're waterproof... Water inside stays in, and nothing outside can contaminate the inside, because we use them for potable (drinking) water as well, with no risk of contamination...

"Duluth Trading makes clothing from the same heavy canvas that firehoses are made from tough firehose canvas, making them affordable and durable protective clothing for Z-dayThey still look a little pricey to me for anyone who isn't going to get everyday use out of them but that said if they're as tough as people say and are going to outlast 3, 4, even 5 pairs of regular shop bought clothes then the price tag starts to look a lot better!
