Zero Tolerance for Trolling

Guys,Let me make it crystal clear that the ZSDW always has and always will have a zero tolerance for trolling and baiting, and that offending parties will be permanently removed from our online community. I hate to be forced to bring this topic up yet another time, but the correct course of action when someone is trolling either you personally or the forum itself is to report the incident to the volunteer staff so that the content can be locked. One of our moderation team will be with you as soon as humanly possible. I would also like to remind you that those members who resort to childish antics do so out of desperation; they lack the maturity or intelligence to bring about meaningful change using conventional methods. Childish means achieve childish ends. ~Jon (LJ126) 10 out of 12 found this valuable. Do you?

Whomever it is, it's definitely unproductive. I don't really understand why someone would think that the ZSDW would try to limit one's freedom of self-expression, especially given that the topics we're discussing are so far fetched and detached from reality to begin with. Everything we talk about is hypothetical!Besides, is trolling the best way to change things? Not in the least - it just ensures that the staff and senior members here will ignore the message that the troll is trying to convey, if it contains one. 3 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

Just report trolls and ignore them. Don't even bother justifying their trolling/bullcrap with a response...Also, I'd like to extend thanks to all the admins and mods that have to put up with all the stupidity from trolls on a daily basis. 8 out of 8 found this valuable. Do you? |

No need to tell me twice :D But yeah like LJ said, when trolls come here and bring up the most stupidest things they can try to come up with...there's always someone acting idiotic when they post a thread....what's up with that??? it just goes beyond my understanding. I can be crazy at times but damn, i'm not THAT crazy...maybe we should have a anti-troll monitoring system or something, something to keep this site TROLL-FREE.

I would ask for assurances that divergeant political views are not considered trolling, but I reckon you lads have more than enough sense to realise it isn't trolling on my part...

I've always wondered how many of these trolls are the same person with different user names, there are some patterns with certain trolls I have seen on here.I'm actually very satisfied with the staffs decisions on this site, you guys are usually swift to reprimand and ban if necessary, I mean you give them more chances than some would have (that's me lol). 6 out of 7 found this valuable. Personally, I have 'fed the trolls' before, and I realize now that the best policy is to ignore them; they just want attention mostly. If anything, I want stricter regulations in most areas.

"http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/thread/4813529/regrds%3A%3A+free+speech+%26+sh!t?widget=modulehotdiscussionsI'd like to make a clear point about free speech, just for those who might be thinking this makes sense. . . I'm not trying to "feed" the troll poster. The ZSDW is a website created for a purpose with specific rules. One chooses to be a member, and can choose not to be at any time. Thus, you must accept the rules and the judgments for breaking them put in place by the site's creator or a team of chosen staff. Here, we actually get to elect moderators, so that gives us an element of democracy. . . If the staff makes it mandatory for all members to be Mormons, then it is a Mormon site, and the answer is to leave and find a non-mormon site (unless you're a Mormon), not to scream about your right to freedom of religion. You aren't forced to change your religion, you just don't have a place on a site with those of another religion. See? It's not about "freedom of speech." If you don't like the website, you are free not to participate. 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

Sorry but I'm fuzzy about the trolling thing. It seems a mere judgment call to say one post is an attempt to provoke a legitimate discussion and another post has stepped over some invisible subjective line into trolling. While the O'Doul Mwahahahah! posts are obviously pointless provocation, I've seen other accusations cast when it wasn't nearly so clear. Furthermore when I once (completely, forehead-slapping mistakenly) believed I was being accused of the 'ultimate' crime on this forum I realized the only way I could disprove it was by shutting the f**k up, and going to lurk mode. . . I respectfully suggest that our collective defensive/fortress mentality is showing in the seriousness we lavish on a fairly minor problem and that we may be better spending the energy laughing it off and/or ridiculing the O'Douls. After all we wouldn't want to be thought of as lacking a sense of humor. . . . _ 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

"FLDR thanks.I also have nothing but respect for the staff but at a bit of a loss as try why we don't just laugh off the O'Douls (who just reminds me of Stewie from Family-Guy) and ban/block them asap of course. Perhaps I'm no more than seeking targets for my well honed, vicious and sardonic sense of humor which I normally do my best to restrain. _ 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Who was Reddison? I vaguely remember him."The only bad seed to ever attain Admin Rank. It got so bad that at one point the site pretty much collectivly told staff that either he leaves or they do. I keep remembering him because he banned me. Brings an Eat Sh!t and Die grin to my face every time. FLDR: Trolling is when you are no longer discussing information but just arguing for its own sake. For example a thread titled Redneks r dum basterds is a troll thread. There is no point in the title except to draw attention and to make people angrily post on it giving trolls the attention they want. For trolls all attention is good attention which is why staff urges people to report rather than argue. If you give a troll attention it's getting what it wants and can keep coming back. "Trolling is trying to get a rise out of someone. Forcing them to respond to you, either through wise-crackery, posting incorrect information, asking blatantly stupid questions, or other foolishness. However, trolling statements are never true or are ever meant to be construed as such. Nearly all trolled statements are meant to be funny to some people, so it does have some social/entertainment value. "Trolling" isn't simply "harmful statements". Intentionally insulting/libelous statements are "flaming". Just as bad as trolling is "Feeding the Trolls". This is when people say stuff that they know will prompt someone to respond with a trolled reply and/or replying to comments that are blatantly from a troll. This is especially true when a troll first makes his comment/reply, and (usually many) people respond, either trying to correct the troll, or express anger at the statement. At that point, the trolling was successful and has been fed. When encouraged by success and feeding, trolls often return." <cont> 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

That said this site is very close-knit and groups like this troll eachother just because we can but we know a limit. But if someone new comes in and does it it's not generally well-recieved because they are an outsider. For example LJ knows (generally) when I am joking and when I'm being serious and I can generally tell the same because we've both been communicating for a long-ass time. It's not good etiquette to just show up and start ribbing everyone no more than it would be acceptable to do so in real life. 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |
