ORP - Optimal Rally Point
Dec 15 2011, 12:25 AM EST
Used for group operationsDistinct from BOL which seems to be(after reading several threads) for individual or family use. An ORP may be a temporary meeting point or a long term but not permanant base 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

What makes it optimal if it's temporary?

Could theoretically be a place that would allow access to supplies you've hidden in several areas and several ways to the BOL. If you have several people who are all going to your BOL, this spot could be much, much closer, which will cut down on the time you need to be traveling alone.

Tempus Fugit - There are rally points and optimal rally points. What makes one "optimal" is meeting or exceeding the criteria set by the mission planner. Regardless of it's useful "life" it is not the goal. Of course, since the mission criteria may/will change, an ORP may become a goal. Such a goal could be a BOL, a fortified position, a community, an industrial center. But an ORP is expected to be abandoned after serving the mission. For example, havinbg a group of 6 people living within a 20 mile radius: 3 would rally at location 1 ( a rally point ) 2 would rally at location2, group of 3 and group of 2 meet at yet another rally point. 6th man meets them at the ORP where they intend to bivuac for the day before continuing to the next ORP. The mission planner intends for the second ORP to be used for a 3 day period of scavenging, recon, and further planning. However, since it was overun with zeds, the ORP gets changed to a more distant place. Through the example, the group knows each point along the way and should they get separated, they all know where to go. 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |
