Gather 'round children, it's time for Jim the Bastard's storytime!

I figured I should share this story with y'all, as it is rather awesome.

Background:
Yesterday, I was bumming around the gunshop after buying Christmas presents in the mall for my parents and GF. While there, I noticed a Davis Warner side-by-side 12 gauge for $150. Since my parents weren't there, I couldn't handle it, but it was very interesting nontheless.

So, today, I hung around the house mostly. My mom said she was going to the grocery store. After three hours, she came back with groceries...and the shotgun! Apparently, she'd heard me talking about it, went to the store, asked which one I'd been looking at, and bought it. I saw the receipt; she only paid $100! Her reason: "I needed something to put in your stocking. Merry Christmas."

I'm very pleased with the gun. Like I said, it's a Davis Warner, side-by-side, 3" chamber, 28" barrel. It's in good condition, very thin and light, and just feels good overall. Even though I'm not familiar with the brand, you just can't beat the price. I can't wait to shoot it! My dad really likes it as well, and even my mom (who doesn't shoot regularly) said she would shoot it!

Sorry, I just felt that I needed to tell the story. In conclusion: got a new gun, and my mom is awesome!

Congrats man

I have a strange feeling I might be getting a mosin for Christmas... Can't be positive, but my mothers behaviors when I question her about it seem to point towards it...

Anyways, awesome present, congrats on your new "boomstick".

NR Davis &Sons merged with Warner in the mid 19teens 1916 or 17 and remained in operation till 1930, then was bought by Cresent Davis arms.. which I think is still in operation.

So being you shotty is marked Davis -Warner I would guess it was manufactered between 1917 and 1930. Unfortunately there are no substantial serial number records and some of their production had serial numbers some did not, with no rhyme or reason to which or when or what numbers ran when.

( oh and post script, does your Mother know you are claiming that she and your father were never formally introduced???? ( Jim the Bastard)?!?!?)

Very nice SJ. I love a good double barrel shotgun, I have a SxS Matador and really nice 20ga Browning O/U. You cant beat the way they feel for shooting moving game in my opinion.

Wife got me 1000 rounds of .308 ammo for Xmas. came in four thirty cal ammo cans. She opened them to check them out and was freaked out, she brought me a belt of .308 and said is this right? do you have to have a Machine gun to shoot this?
I said no I could delink it, it is no problem. Now I have liks for a MG42 yeah. I wll get rid of them at the next gun show I go to.

Nice cyrano!

And thanks for the responses guys. I got a chance to go out and shoot it yesterday. Tested buckshot at around 30 yards and slugs at around 60. It seemed plenty accurate for hunting at those ranges; the buck had a nice, even pattern, and 4 slugs went into around a palm-sized group. I'll have to try the Winchester PDX rounds in it soon; I love that round.

Also, on a rather cool note, after seeing it, my grandpa told me that he had a similar shotgun made by Davis Warner when he was younger. According to him, they're solid guns, so I'm feelin' pretty good about it.

A good coach gun is a bit rare these days. Just make sure you crown the barrel cleanly.

You've got a damn huge stocking, SJ.

My gun-related Christmas present will be a box of Brown bear 7.62x54mm for Jade.
