HELP!

Okay I will be completely honest. I am a fat kid 5'8 210lbs 13 will someone tell me how to speed up. I scored 25 percentile with a 32 pound bug out bag. In boots and long pants will some tell me some speed exercise's because IM SLOW AS A TURTLE-SLUG HYBRID. To all the fat people reading this we will be Eaton first so shape up.

You could always try interval training, you can find dozens of different systems online, but the idea is quick bursts of intense activity followed by a longer period of less, but still high, activity. And going out with your B.O.B. on ruck marches isn't a bad idea either to shed some weight, but it's hell on the legs until you get used to it. There are no quick fixes to speed and endurance, just keep at it and work, work, work, hopefully the Zeds won't be here before you finish haha ;) hope this helps

1) Did you use the chart on the page this thread was posted on to assess yourself that grade (25th percentile)?If so, you way underrated yourself as that chart does not account for carrying a weight/pack. The chart is based off times of people not carrying any weight. This would account for the low score. 2) I assume that the members who set record times (as noted on the page) on the mile run (as well as anyone who scored very well) were wearing running shoes, not boots. 3) A more reliable way to gauge your physical condition/weight (compared to the average weight) would be a body mass index. You can calculate yours here: http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ As for what to do to improve your speed, I'm not really an expert in the subject. This is something I know a little about, I was always the guy that could eat anything and never gain weight... Then something happened. My metabolism decided to come back down to Earth and I blew up to 340lbs. Even going down the stairs to the fridge was a nightmare. I did every diet imaginable. I just was never very good at sticking to them. Hell I like to eat.I did 3 things and dropped 120lbs. 1)Stopped drinking soda. I averaged 3 to 4 2 liters a day, I was a Code Red junkie. Drink water, and ONLY water. No Diet soda or teas, just water. 2)Increase your activity. I had all kinds of crazy ideas, I was going to hit the gym, take up martial arts again. Hike, bike. But I just never had the time. Finally I just started walking before bed. Started just around the block a few times. But it got longer and longer. After a while I did actually start doing the things I wanted, like hiking without wondering where they would find my body in the spring. 3)Never give up! After about 2 weeks with no difference I just wanted to give up. I could see no impact other then wanting to kill anyone near me with a soda. About week 4 I noticed something, I thought the scale was broken but I shed 20 lbs . Then I started walking a little farther and took Taco Bell off my menu. And I tell you that carrying around all that weight for so long I was like a new man. I tell you what there is always room for you in my group, people that have never been fat just can't grip what it's like. I have been. I've never been that big, but I struggle to maintain the shape that I'm in, and 10 hour days of work and classes doesn't make setting aside time for exercise easy, Find something that works for you, that you enjoy doing, and stick to it as religiously as you can. For me that means muay thai, for you it may be something else, whatever it is, I wish you luck. losing weight and building speed and endurance is a humbling experience. And the water thing Elvis was talking about works. though my problems beer not soda lol. Do you find this valuable? |

That stuff is for . . . more advanced people. What I would suggest is just going for a hike every day with your B.O.B on. Make the time, you know you can. Don't worry about fancy schedules or crazy diets. I say "don't worry about the diets" because you WILL know that if you eat something bad that day (Too many chips, a sh*t ton of goldfish, etc.) because you WILL get a cramp of all cramps. Eventually it will all just work out. Do that for a few months and you'll see enough results that you'll keep doing it until you're ready to run. And then just google a "5k training plan" and you'll get a nice chart that goes into great detail of what you should do every day of every week until you can run a 5k. It would be a good idea to pick a race that you can train for to give you motivation. Do you find this valuable? |

I was never huge, but being in the Navy, I was dangerously close to being branded overweight and failing a PRT, and that's something that sticks with you for years (5, usually) before you can hope to make a new rank again. Zombie Elvis, awesome ideas.NUMBER 1, like they said, is water. DIET is the DEVIL. It tricks you into thinking it's so much healthier, so you will actually over consume. And that's not counting my thoughts on artificial sweetner and what it probably is doing to people. ZombieElvis is right again. ANY activity is huge. I often stand 12 hour watches several days in a row. It sucks (hopefully done soon) but you still have to be active, no matter what your schedule is. For me, the best way to do this was finding a friend, a workout buddy. You can motivate each other, encourage each other, and keep each other accountable. Also, it's typically a part of a man (more in some than others) to be a little competitive, so that'll help you push just a little bit harder. Start small, but start, and keep with it. You have to push your body past that point, like ZE said, where it seems like nothing is happening. The body could be very slow to respond, but it will eventually respond (unless you have a thyroid problem, altogether different issue). Something not mentioned: I'm not a fan of 'brand name diets'. I'm a fan of eating smart, eating small, and eating often. Eating Smart: If you don't buy junk food, you won't have any to eat. Buy fruit, and remind yourself that it'll go bad if you don't eat it. Usually works for me. Water, yogurt, healthy cereals, and healthy food options. Also, I like to eat the fattier/sweeter stuff in the morning...gives you all day to burn it off. continued Do you find this valuable? |

After you work out, make sure you take in some protein within 30 minutes. Your body is trying to make muscle, and having some protein will give it that fuel. This also helps slowly and healthily to increase your metabolism. Also eat some protein for dinner, as your body does muscle building/healing at night. Lean protein, chicken, turkey, fish, etc. Not a ton of butter and the like. Mustard is your best friend, if you like the stuff. (Note: Men need red meat for the specific types of proteins that only it can offer. It is directly linking to helping with balanced testosterone levels, which help with metabolism, muscle creation, mood, and low T-levels can lead to man-specific cancers...so eat red meat for breakfast, like steak tips and eggs or something, so again, you have all day to burn off the fat...fat at night goes straight to fat on your body).Eat small: Decrease your portion size. This is huge. Eat a small portion, S L O W L Y. This will give your stomach a chance to realize it has food in it. A lot of people eat so quickly that they eat more than they would have needed to, and it becomes 'normal'. Break that cycle. Small portions. Eventually, you'll notice (like I did last night) that, despite how tasty it is, one plateful of damn good food, and I'm full...too full, last night. Eat often: A lot of diets don't mention that our body is constantly trying to digest. Drinking a lot of water helps, because it gives your stomach something to do, but eating small meals every couple of hours does wonders for metabolism, because the body gets used to constantly having something to digest. People who eat one meal actually SLOW their metabolism because they trick their body into thinking that food is scarce, and they need to go into a hibernation type mode...eating often tricks the body into realizing food is readily available, burn away.
