My latest plan

So, lately there has been A LOT going on in the States (for those of you who aren't living in the US). Lately, since helping out with the Occupy (which actually helped me get a new job), I've kinda been thinking of things a little differently than I usually do. With this, I've come across a new concept: A mobile shelter. We already have things like Mobile Homes and RV's, so why not play upon the idea? Plus, it makes moving things around a hell of a lot easier. To cut to the chase: My Kinda Plan (one of many) Get a hold on a Class A RV/Camper. It can hold over 100 Gallons of water, store over 100 Gallons of waste, many today are gas efficient, and they'll have the shelter you need and even host electricity as most have solar panels on top now. If possible, reinforce the outside with strong steel paneling (especially the windows and windshield to add extra security. Stock up on food, especially dry food and canned food, and tons of medical supplies. Don't forget the major items you would need for a BOB as well. You can store a lot of stuff in an RV. Check around, RV's always have a sort of "secret compartment" be it under the bed, in the couches, or in the booths. Find little places to stash different weapons as needed and keep one large locked compartment (even if it's a brought in chest of sorts) with more weapons, ammo, and precious items like gold and trade-ables for the future. Keep plenty of maps on you, including Road Atlas'. These are just the Generic basics but the RV would help for basic mobilizing and you could easily get to the destination you seek. My idea is to head out somewhere with a low population to avoid conflict. Somewhere like a desert or even into the mountains. I also just found out that we might have a new predator to watch for, so that also cause this idea. 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

A) What's the new predator? Wild Hogs? My sister? Don't leave us hangin'! :)B) Congrats on the new job. C) This is still reliant on fuel, and moderate to worst-case scenarios all wind up with fuel running out or going bad within a couple of months. If this is something you want to use to get to a better BOL, then I'm kinda 50/50 on it, but as a long term plan, I think it's short-sighted. This is probably where W76K jumps in about a wood gasifier, though. :) I think it sounds like a great idea initially, but unless you can figure out how it will travel without normal gasoline/diesel, then it's going to become a stationary and not-very-strong BOL rather quickly... And look up the weight on even quarter-inch steel plating to cover the sides...8' tall by 20+' long, 160sq ft per side, plus bars for windows...it adds up very fast, and those things aren't meant to handle that kind of weight, plus supplies, plus people...the suspension will probably be unable to handle a single significant pothole at that rate, let alone a trek into the mountains. 1 out of 2 found this valuable. "Hell, best case scenario you get stranded in the middle of nowhere."If you can survive in the middle of nowhere where there arent any zombies, i dont think it would be half bad, but if you like where to get stranded ina desert with on food supply or anything like that, your dead. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Sounds nice. Though the idea isn't new. It's going to take some expertise and hell of alot of $ to get all your materials, weapons, food, etc. Also that's not going to get mileage if you know what I mean. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Another slight problem is the lack of a long-term food source. It will be quite difficult to grow beans of raise rabbits inside an RV, unless you manage to keep them on the roof. I think this is a good short-term plan, and would work well in the initial first few weeks or months of an invastion, but I would recommend finding more permanent and stable shelter as quickly as you can. 0 out of 1 found this valuable.
