Hunting during the Zompoc loadout:

12 Guage pump aciton shotgun with sling
20 slugs, 40 buckshot, and if birds are around, 10 birdshot
.44 Magnum Taurus Raging Bull (bigger than most cartridges but i am confident in my accuracy)
.44 rounds x 42
.22 Browning Buckmark pistol with 4 magazines(10 rounds per mag) plus a 100 round box.
Light underlayer clothes (maybe long johns if weather dictates)
Insulated gloves for warmth, black leather gloves for shooting
Face wrap and my straw cowboy hat with a skull cap underneath
Bandana
My big Russian-looking coat
Hunting boots
8 inch blade survival knife with small survival pack and compass in the handle.
4 inch blade skinning knife
5 inch blade stiletto style boot knife
Gerber sawback Gator machete
Belt holster for the .22 with mag pouches
Backpack with 4 days of food, bottled water, cooking pan, rangefinder, 3 disposable lighters, sunglasses, beef jerky (a must have), First aid kit, survival blanket, paracord, and some fishing line with tin cans strung on it.

If i get some good feedback i might post this in the loadouts section and take pics.

Not sure if i was clear on some of the stuff, so feel free to ask ?s

"The kids and I stalk hunt all our game in twos or threes and NEVER miss our game.
It's called field craft and my kids have become as good or better than me.
Kind of humbling when a 12/14yr old gives you that " Really dad you have to sound like a herd of elephants everywhere we go?" lol"
Don't forgot the dogs as well. Gotta bring them along.

I can actually use 357 for deer hunting at close ranges
But I'm getting a 308 for boars and whatnot and should
Armed assailants show up they'll be more than effective

Check out the Badlands backpacks. You don't have to modify most of them and they're really supposed to be rugged, reliable hunting packs.

I really like your picks on clothing and weapons. Do you own or have access to all this kick ass gear? If you do you're off to a good start."
I actually have access to most if not all of this stuff in addition to a "sniper" rifle well as close to one as I'll ever need

I'll be honest, I wouldn't hunt for zombies. Not stalk them anyway. I'd lure them into a deep pit with a boombox playing the Top Gun Soundtrack on repeat --- that'll attract zombies... Take My Breath Away!!! And when they're in the pit, carefully retract my boombox with the cords it's tied to, pour some flammable fluid on 'em and light 'er up. When they're ashes, repeat.

Now if I were hunting zombies that can think, I might have to use a different cassette.

"purpose: scouting/zed hunting/regular hunting
"
Aaaand. . . let me stop you right there.

"Zed hunting" is one f*cked up idea, let me tell you. Trying to hunt zombies is about as smart putting on you bullet-proof vest and emptying a 1911 at point blank range to test it.

I say it's a bad idea, but I really mean, in a huge outbreak-apocalyptic situation. If it's a small outbreak or isollated occurance, fine, but if you're talking "zombie apocalypse," you don't want to go after those things alone. Do you find this valuable?

"Don't forgot the dogs as well. Gotta bring them along."
I don't use dogs even on raccoons.
Used to have a English Bird Dog. Great all around hunting dog.
My dogs are more protection than work dog.
But might get a cow dog next. Do miss the help when working the cows.

I agree Zombiehunting is a bad idea but scouting out to see if a large hoard is comming your way or any other threat would be useful. 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

Well if your hunting game or birds in my case dogs are a vital member of the team. If your hunting Zombies and using firearms to do it, you might as well bring some puppies to provide all around security for yourself.

My typical Pheasant hunting loadout.
Shirt or Hoodie thickness depends on weather.
Brush Pants
Lowa boots with good socks
Carhart Jacket if required.
Skull cap or Pheasants Forever ball cap both Hunter Orange
Gators
Shooting Gloves
Pocketknife
Lighter with Smokes

Camel Back with two litters of H20
Munchies for myself and K9
Dog Water/Kibble Bowl
Spare Socks
TP
Latex Gloves
Plastic Grocery Bags
One brown/hunter orange game vest

Benelli Legacy 20 gauge or Winchester Select 12 Gauge with 15 to 20 shells. Two handfuls are enough.
Kahr CM-9 with two mags or 1911 with two mags

"A .22 in your "scout" loadout would make sense too."
I would think that .38 specials loaded light would do much the same job in the .357 rifle, without having to carry another weapon.

As for hunting, not on my agenda - I'm vegetarian, unless survival dictates. But I don't see hunting zombies as a bad idea. Think of a regular perimeter patrol, or scavenging scout in a small town (or even abandoned truck stop). Set up a noise maker of some sort (thanks LJ, I nearly coughed my lunch out over my keyboard :) ) and then pop them as they appear. *Any* centrefire rifle would be fine, and the Puma is nice and light, leaving plenty of weight for the scavenged goods. Coopers' "Scout Rifle" is probably the perfect way to go for this, paired with a .22 pistol for small game, if that's what you want.

The other stuff is to taste and/or climate, but a decent knife and a good tomahawk/machete/timberhammer would be sensible additions if kept light for the same reasons. Lotus car designer Colin Chapman said it best: "Simplify, then add lightness". :)
