Oh, I'll help the main settlement, I won't have use for all the cobblestone I'll be hauling out, but I have a lot of experience with minecraft, and I prefer to run my own path. Working as a group never fits me well on games, I quite prefer it in real life, but on games, I am a lone wolf.

We will not be doing solo runs for the first week of the game.

You will be restricted to a certain area until everyone knows everyone...


...and, oh boy, have we found a great place for you all!

Aww come on, wheres the freedom here? Fine, I'll spend time in the camp, but during the day, I'm off to gather materials for my own ends.


Also, once I am allowed to branch off on my own, I would like to ask for advanced permission to use flint and steel and tnt on my own premises only (only within the area my creations expand, nowhere near other folks structures or prebuilt structures. They will be used primarily for defensive purposes.

You will get a small area to work with. Trust me, this will fall apart if we don't manage it to begin with. We need to make sure everyone knows what is going on, rules, how to play, what to do/not to do. If we let everyone go off on their own nobody would see anybody for ages.

After a week we will let you go exploring, pick your own location, fence it off etc. In order to keep the community together though we will still have scenario events. These will usually involve everyone who can participate and will be themed around an on going plotline/story of the apocalypse.

Except... That's sort of what I'm trying to do. My goal is to remain unfound, to be the mysterious trader/hermit of the lands. My traps would be to ensure my own safety, and to make up for lack of manpower that a hermit life brings. If I can avoid attention, my chance of survival is much greater. I will take part in your scenarios (after all, I have trading interests in your surface world, any raid on you would affect me as well) so I will participate and aid in any defensive scenarios. I will provide materials to help improve your settlements defenses, but I will not actively be a part of it (well, I may help with building some defenses, because I enjoy that). More or less, my character will be one of the shadows.

Marsden, I'm not trying to be a jackass, or force anything upon anyone, I'm just not one who enjoys the idea of having forced limitations and roles placed on me outside of reason (Limitations, like being told not to grief and whatnot are within reason, I can understand those), that to me ruins the spirit of the game.

However, it is your goal. There are plenty of people who want to work together too. There will be time in the future for hermit life. I have created 10 or so different games from scratch on here. 3 of which were the players can do whatever they want more or less. Out of those 3 none worked. The other 7 games were heavily controlled and 4 of them worked. I know those statistics aren't great enough to be evidence here, but perhaps they can be an indicator.

I know you aren't being an ass, you're making intelligent points. The limitations will only last a week, John and I need time to check how much the server can handle etc, and to do this we need all players to be in one chunk. Bear in mind I do not want to have to babysit players all the time in one small area. I want to give them freedom, but we need to create a community first. Trading won't work without a community.

Thanks for raising your concern, if you think you can reach a compromise with me I am open for discussion here.

Umm 1 chunk is a 16x16 block, from the top of the building limit down to the bedrock/void below bedrock. Rather cramped eh? =P (Had to make a joke about that, I understand what you meant by that though.)

Trading also doesn't work without forms of infrastructure. Infrastructure takes time to build, especially when you factor distance in. I have no intentions of working off of a pre-set infrastructure, If I intend to market a certain resource, I want to have a unique and efficient method of gathering it, holding it (between trades) and transporting it to the trade area, all whilst keeping my infrastructure hidden from prying eyes.

Also, we already have the community, we're the ZSDW, not a bunch of people who've never spoken before. I've played minecraft on servers long enough to know that the community is interchangeable.

I'm perfectly fine if you admins make sure I'm not up to no good (so long as you keep my location a secret XD).

As for the concerns about server abilities, that's a reasonable worry, but from my previous experience running a server (off of an older computer, nothing fancy or special), I can tell you that it takes a lot to slow down or damage a server.

I have to agree that the rules are best for the first week.

We'll all have different skills, we'll all have different ideas about what we want to do, and we can get lost very easily. We need a provisional period to get to grips with the whole thing.

actually based on the numbers of people we already have i say at most well have 20~ people give or take ive heard of servers that numbered over a 100+ people so i dont think well have to worry about the server crashing from too many people Do you find this valuable?

Like I said, it could be me just getting really neurotic about this.

Just in my experience, I think we might be "been there, done that" fairly quickly.

Argh, I'm growing impatient, single player is alright, but it gets tedious when the enemy doesn't show up enough. Do you find this valuable?
