Welcome to Zanzibar (vote for Pedro).
Jan 17 2012, 7:42 PM EST
I proclaim this city as Zanzibar. Flag - green X on a white flag. NEW LAWS I establish myself as supreme dictator and give all citizens of Zanzibar the right to vote me out after one (1) year. any elected preZident can be voted out or be voted to stay in office. City council = fired (as they are creating problems and the people wouldn't disagree) and a new council will be chosen out of new applicants. - The council's new job is not to vote or decide on matters; but to hear the peoples grievances and present those issues to me, acting as my advisers. I can fire anyone after bringing the matter to court and showing guilty verdict. - Court Consists of 12 jury members - all citizens except for the preZident and council can be on jury. There must not be a conflict of interest (jury can not be the accused's family or fellow workers). - all are entitled to either self-represent or seek anyone to represent them. - all have the right to a fair hearing and trial. - all have the right to present evidence and call witnesses. - a guilty plea may be negotiable to a reduced sentance with enforced rules and sanctions - in low-scale crimes only. - Jury members will be given perks (pay for work missed, 1 days food rations for them self). - all citizens are entitled to one meal per day - supplied by the government and distributed at 6:00 pm daily/ free of charge. - tokens will be kept in circulation. - new wage rates: farmers = 13/ daily. Militia = 12 daily. Maintenance = 10 tokens daily. All administrative workers (police, doctors, council, teachers, me, etc) = 12/daily. - Anyone can open their own practice or Artisan (shoe maker, baker, mechanic, etc) and charge their own rates for goods or service. - all admin services (teacher, doctor, school, etc) are made public. One can still open a side-practice and charge their own rates. - legal representation, you must have been on jury Do you find this valuable?

As per my intro:- you must have been on jury for minimum 5 trials before you can open your own legal representation practice. - gum spitting law - eff that lol. - murder/ manslaughter = fired from job and either; jailed, banished or excecuted depending on severity. - theft = min 12 days jail / max 1 year, and repayment of value of stolen item. - assault = min 30 day jail sentance. - sex assault = min 4 month jail sentance and public flogging. - all have the right to defend themself by reasonable force. - all have the right to retrieve a debt personally after filing a request with the police. - all have the right to preserve their honour. Eye for eye tooth for tooth. But it must be requested through the police. - drug posession/ drug use = legal. The drug must be a natural substance. You must obtain a permit to produce any drug. - alcohol = legal. Admin duties: establish diplomacy with the cartel inside the city. They may sell naturally produced drugs and charge their own rates. In addition, they will produce natural drugs and whichever else they can for the government of Zanzibar. These items will be made available for trade. The cartel will be Allowed to keep 25% of their production for their own distribution. We will pay each member 10 tokens daily to produce. We will pay the cartel 11% of incoming trade generated by their production. - The cartel will be made an extension of the gov't of Zanzibar - as will the police and the militia. - the cartel must not exceed 6 members as will be stipulated by law (to not allow them to become too powerful). - to be in the cartel, one must apply for a permit - which is free and only to keep the individual on record. - they must answer to presedente who will enforce through the court, police and militia. Tbc This would stop the violence and may help the economy a lot better. Do you find this valuable? |

First things first: the white house and granger house.... No. No, no. My people don't live in tents when I live large. The white house - City Hall. Functions as the city's main HQ - it functions as: - Council/ board room. - city courthouse. - police HQ - my police force gets an office where they can coordinate from. - city archives/ library - all city records are stored here. (laws, regulations, ordinances, birth/death records, stockpile/storage/bookkeeping info, court decisions, jail info, etc) - open book policy. - kitchen/ mess hall for new inhabitants. - immigration office. - main government office. - city suggestion box (at front door). - a city forum will be implemented where all Zanzibarians can speak freely and voice their concerns. Granger house: - converts into the city hospital. - The backyard/ front yard will be used to grow herbs and produce some natural remedies. - city nursery/ daycare. - city natural pharmacy. 2nd Granger house - becomes the city school/ study. 3rd granger house - bank/ payroll. Records of City inventory will also be kept here. Job postings can be found here as will be the citys human resources office. 4th granger house - cartel HQ - not their home, simply production facility with a front store. The terraced homes will remain. The abandoned and condemned houses: will launch an operation to fix them. 30 maintenance members will be selected from volunteers to help reconstruct the damaged homes. Each one gets a unit for their family to live in after completion. I'll be back with more. Do you find this valuable? |

I'm working on an excercise on governing a survivor city.its an island that was the center of a great civilization that sadly though it had great economic prowess it lacked heavily militaricly so it was swept up in the European steamroller that came across the rest of Africa. the reason why is because Zanzibar is pretty conservative and i myself take a very hard stance on drugs soo yaa.. Now my thread has been ravaged, where a simple request to change the name and a streight forward reason why would have been more than sufficient and I would have been more than willing to listen and make the change. I just figured: zombies, a cool name that starts with the letter Z would fit nicely. That's why I chose Zanzibar. As per the drugs thing; I'm not exactly pro drug either but in an apocalypse, why should someone waste their time making drugs illegal when they could be used as an effective commodity. For example, opiates are used as a pain suppresant for surgery. I was betting on peoples want to smoke pot after zday *may* skyrocket and the need for painkillers to spike - thus, paying to feed the entire survivor colony. And... I'm part native Canadian aboriginal - my people got taken over by the Europeans and threw em on poorly funded reservations. Do you find this valuable? |

I would advise against firing the city counsel, the Americans did that in Iraq and that left the infrastructure in shambles.Agree with Stryker.. Do you find this valuable? |

"I would advise against firing the city counsel, the Americans did that in Iraq and that left the infrastructure in shambles.Yea but the city council; as per Marsden's information on the way the city is working; are the ones that caused problems and made the people camp outside the councilors homes in tents. The reason why: inequality of pay, poor housing, poor infrastructure - the people live in shambles... And you can't spit your gum on the ground... The citizens don't want the council there. However; I would agree with you half-way. How bouts firing the ones who are really not fit for the job? I also changed the function of the council - they advise and don't have the final say. In being a god-fearing dictator, one would have a duty to ensure that the peoples grievances are heard and tended to. In risk of getting into a political debate, I find it wrong to leave decisions up to a council. Yea, maybe the people voted to put those people in; but councils are what slows things down - where this situation requires immediate action or the city could fall apart. Also, just because a council votes on matters doesn't mean that the common good is being met; nor does it mean that the people are being heard. My system, ensures that the peoples grievances are heard and are acted on promptly. Glad to have you with, sharp. Do you find this valuable? |

My goal isn't to get voted back in, it's to do a duty to the people in a desparate time. If they vote me back in as dictator, great; if they don't, they don't. When everyone has food, protection, homes and better bathrooms they probably won't complain lol :) Do you find this valuable? |

"Put 'em on a very short leash, if they have experience running the city (although with an iron fist) make them go legit at least until you can train your own people"Yupp, I could do that. I just don't want a riot in my city, which; by looks was about to happen. I'd still have them move out of those comfy homes - which would be used for the people and to help run the city. Given the fact that no one was aware you were from Zanzibar prior to this statement, given the fact that JPTank views what he is doing as a positive thing to make society better, and given the fact that ruling such a statement as insulting or racist would permit unlimited liability I'm going to have to say that JPTank is completely innocent. He has done nothing wrong. He didn't mention race once, he didn't even use a gender specific term of any sort. He has been neutral in every possible avenue I have seen. I have no seen one iota of racism or sexism in this thread. He does not need to change the name of his city. Do you find this valuable? |
