Take your truck gun?
Jan 22 2012, 10:55 AM EST | Post edited: Jan 22 2012, 10:55 AM EST
The Truck gun got me to thinking(generally a bad thing). If at the begging of a SHTF emergency and you get stranded in your vehicle in a semiurban area when you evac do you take your truck gun with you?
Some things to think about are, is the increase in firepower worth the notice you would get from jeolous individuals, already over worked and harrassed LEOs, etc?

I am starting to think I would just use my sidearm to be able to get home.

I will have a soft case with a sling, to carry it covered with my car BOB.

The more I think about it I like the idea of buying a KelTec 2000 (the folding carbine), in .40s&w. That way I can fold it up in side of my car kit or my main BOB and use some of my extra Glock 22 mags., especially the 5 - 29 round Scherer mags. I have now.

They work good in my Glock, so they should be fine for the KelTec 2000, plus they cost less than $400 new.

If money wasn't so tight I'd probably have a seperate rifle with a solid folding stock as a trunk/truck gun. Most AKs with a good folding stock can actually be concealed in a backpack fairly easily. Do you find this valuable?

One of the big reasons I don't keep a rifle or shotgun in my truck. Like I said in the other thread, if I lived in the sticks it would be a different story. But in the city, hauling an SKS around could make me a target. I'll rely on my pistol and stealth. Do you find this valuable?

My trunk gun would be a Mossberg with a folding stock (it's on my list after the .38), which I can carry in my BOB duffel bag but not in something like a school backpack. I know the local area well enough that if I wasn't able to hide my weapon, I could take routes through the stretches of forest and smaller neighborhoods back to my house. I'm goin' with a GE mini-gun bolted to the hood for my truck gun. Should make someone think twice before they cut me off. Do you find this valuable?

I couldn't help myself. I was stuck inside today with a bum ankle playing "Rage".

There's a good dog and a bad dog inside of me. They fight all the time and sometimes the bad dog wins and I post something like this.

If i was to hypothetically carry a firearm around in my vehicle it would be my M&PL 9mm with a couple of spare mags

Simply because its concealable so i wont attract any attention and its a bit easier to carry 100 rounds of ammunition for a 9mm then it is a .300 win mag

This is some thing i have thought over a lot and for me a pistol is the most suitable solution to my situation

The only reason i would use the firearm is as an absolute last resort and there would have to be no other reasonable non lethal solution before i even reveled the fact i had a firearm and sadly if it came to that then there is going to be a fatality and this is some thing i wish to avoid as its not conducive to my survival to be getting into situations where i need to use lethal force

So for me the pro's of a pistol are

1. concealable
2. light weight
3. ability to carry a bit more ammunition then you would for a rifle and still be discrete
4. any foreseeable armed combat would be under 25 meters

So yeah thats why my pistol would be my truck gun and why i would take it with me but once again this is based of my needs and location

If the Charger with a folding stock ever became NR, I would pick that.

Some people keep Kel-Tecs in a laptop case, not sure it the NR version would fit in one but if it did that might be a truck gun to consider

Well if i did have a truck gun it would probably actually be 2 guns
Over and Under shotgun chambered in 20 gauge with a stock and cut down barrel about 16-18 in.
Revolver chambered in 357. magnum to give me a little more range

I would probably take them with me i wouldn't want someone taking them and possibly using them I'm very possessive of my stuff, Also I'm pretty sure it wouldn't cause to much attention a double shotgun and old revolver there not very appealing weapons to most people what would cause some stares would be like a semi auto or something so I'm not too worried.

If we're talking something just to get you home and close range I'd consider my mossberg 500 with the 18.5" barrel it will slide under or between the seats nicely so it's not in open view. Having a CHL I would most likely have a pistol as well. Do you find this valuable?

I have a carbine in the rear of my vehicle. Its my firepower multiplier if the pistol comes up short. But I live in an area where guns are normal. I work in a town thats a decient sized town. So it might me really noticed but its full of urban redneck hunters. I see guns always in the street headed for range time or the hunt.
Now if you live or work in downtown Quebec it might be an issue. But remember this is SHTF and the police will be buisy already. And some people will be already going on the inner city version of a shopping spree (ie looting and destroying). So all the extra firepower will be a big bonus too.
Its again all personal and location.
