Utility Belt
Jan 29 2012, 12:54 AM EST
Hi everyone, I'm still a newbie to this group and not sure if this subject was touched upon. Not sure how many of you are fond of them, but me personally as part of my bug out gear I have put together a utility belt. I use an adjustable 2 1/4 inch heavy duty nylon belt with a quick release buckle. Attached to it each in their seperate pouches - 1 fixed blade hunting knife - 1 multi tool - 1 pouch for my phone - 1 pouch for my GPS - 1 pistol holster w/ attached extra mag flap - 1 double mag holder - 1 utility pouch - 1 utility loop with 2 carbiners (1 locking, 1 non locking) - 1 LED flashlight in pouch. again sorry if this subject has a thread already, couldnt find it using the search function for some reason if there is. Opinions, pointers, and comments would be appreciated none the less. 2 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

*looks around...raises hand slowly* Yeah I'll admit it, I have one lol. It's this belt pack that I've had since I was barely old enough to running through the woods by myself. It's very durable and has enough room to add stuff to.100 rounds 7.62x54 2 fixed blade knifes 1 pair binoculars 1 multi tool 1 flashlight 2 open pouches I like the concept of just having the belt over a vest(even though I still want one). If I ever have to drop my BOB at least I still have some of my bare essentials. Also, it's less likely to be grabbed on to or snag onto things. It can be removed quickly if neccesary or restrict movement as much also. Do you find this valuable? |

Yeah. I support the idea of having multiple "layers" of my gear, one being the utility belt. The initial layer is what's on my person, which is a boot knife, a zippo, a pocket knife, and some extra long 500# paracord bootlaces. Then starting at the lightest loadout, is the belt, 2" nylon, and KA-BAR in my big sheath with the flashlight, magnesium bar, and electrical tape. I carry that rig whenever I'm working around my BOL, or out hiking, etc. Next up from that I add to the utility belt a left drop-leg pouch and right drop leg holster combo for whatever pistol I feel like and some more MacGuyver gear like a multitool and compass among other things. Next up, Combat Loadout, includes the Camelbak 102 oz bladder MOLLE load bearing vest, mag pouches, shotshell pouch, IFAK, meal replacement bars, radio, tool pouch, combat light, back shotgun scabbard, and rope. Add the ALICE pack on the back for clothes, ammo, water, toilet paper, duct tape, field hospital, food, sleeping kit, fishing, and other stuff. Grab the duffel bag full of more of the same if I can carry it. And the footlocker full of oil, coolant, belts, water, fuses, rope, poncho, tools, and other car stuff if I have a car. Start loading the plastic totes full of MREs and canned goods if I have room. Follow it up with jerry cans of water. Do you find this valuable? |

I like the belt idea man, although I would add a few more survival items in that, just in case you get separated from all your other gear

"I like the belt idea man, although I would add a few more survival items in that, just in case you get separated from all your other gear"Definately room for improvement and additions, but for me my main focus on the belt was if incase for some reason I was seperated from my BOB or just my gear while scavenging or something else I would always have a fighting chance to get back to my gear. @Treelegs how big are the pouches you have? The one on my belt is a 4x4x2 pouch with a snap button closure, I'd like to have something larger tho but without the fear that they may get in the way while running. Do you find this valuable? |

I'm ashamed to say that I honestly never though of that. You could also plop in a small B.O.B (In this case, "Bug-out Box") that had some very basic needs (theenglandguy wrote a page on my site about these things, which you can check out here). If you're gonna click the link, it's the kit at the very top - the small kit. I think I'm gonna make me one of these and keep 'er at the ready. Do you find this valuable? |

"Definately room for improvement and additions, but for me my main focus on the belt was if incase for some reason I was seperated from my BOB or just my gear while scavenging or something else I would always have a fighting chance to get back to my gear.Well I have leftover pouches from my MOLLIE gear back in the day, so I just clipped them to it. Had a three mag pouch for M16 mags, grenade pouch, aid pouch plus what the belt already had on it (cut one off I didn't like so that gave me more room). I'm also kind of a big guy (6'5" 245lbs w/ 38-40" waist) so I get to have a little more length from that probably lol. All in all I have 5 zipper or button pouches. Probably going to replace one with my Otis cleaning kit however. I usually turn the biggest pocket around to my lower back so the weight of the rounds doesn't throw me off balance if I have to move quick. Do you find this valuable? |

I don't happen to have a utility belt, but I think I'd like to make/get one. I've got a trio of two-compartment clip pouches for my Mosin, which I think could hold up to 120 rounds all on my belt. Also got my knife that needs a home other than my pocket.

Speaking of which, anyone know where to find good stripper clips for a Mosin? Do you find this valuable? |

"Had the same pouch for mine actually lol. Replaced it with the M16 pouch. Theyre all loose anyway. Speaking of which, anyone know where to find good stripper clips for a Mosin?"wish I could tell you a good online source, when i owned a mosin I just bought mine from gun shows. :/ good luck in your search. I like the idea of putting the bigest pocket around to your lower back, but for me ( im 5'11") I'd hate to think of an issue like my bob getting in the way of the pouch since it hangs a little low on me. I guess im stuck doing the batman and having a bunch of smaller pouches with items rather than a large pouch haha. Do you find this valuable? |

The whole idea behind wearing a utility belt for me is that I have all the most needed essentials at hand... and not just for zombies. Like the other night. I was having a relaxing night up at the BOL, drinking some beers around the fire. My friend's wife came outside to tell us that the water pressure was low in the sink. We took one of the golf carts up to the No. 1 Pumphouse, where I used the flashlight to see in the dark, the knife to pry open the electrical box (where there was a loose breaker to the pressure pump)... and my buddy used his Ruger .22 to get a rabbit for some stew and fur. Not to mention, if it WAS the zed-poc, and I wandered off to the bushes to, say, take a leak, and the camp was ambushed by zed, I'd like to at least have a knife, light, and some gear on my belt if I can't get to my LBV or BOB soon enough. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. back before I sold my beretta 92 I had a setup like you, Striker. With my bare essentials on the belt (2 extra AR mag, 2 beretta mags, a beretta, power bars, small 1st Aid, pocket knife, water bottle and some paracord). Then I had a flecktarn H Harness from CTD with more AR mags, a bigger knife, more food, more water, a small Murphey kit, more firestarting stuff and a poncho. And then I had a medium ALICE pack with bigger camp things and the like. Do you find this valuable? |

All that's been missed so far, imho, is to add to the utility belt a small first aid kit, and some fishing wire and hook. Neat idea.

But yeah, first aid kit, minimal survival kit, some comforts, and a few hard candies, and you got yourself one bangin' PZD Utility Belt! Do you find this valuable? |
