"It probably adds extra strain on the already strained servers. It just adds more crap to load, and I'd just assume see it gone."If no one uses it fine, no one uses it. But to ban it because someone *might* post porn pics on the threads? That's not right Do you find this valuable? |

I don't even use it. Too much work for me to install it... I'm not a teenager anymore :-P Still, the passage in the TOS prohibits manipulating the Wetpaint software itself, which is what Erin_ whatever got banned for: "stealing" the Wetpaint source code in order to use some of it to create the code for the "trick". USING the "trick" is a different matter. It does not do anything to the Wetpaint source code, instead embedding a second party code within a post. Now. If Wetpaint Head Honchos decide they don't like it, they need to add a section to the ToS prohibiting use of second party software to modify posts or pages. Then we can prohibit its use. "Haha yeah I know, full of info you guys don't know that pertains to your jobs on here!!And once again immature trolls are marking posts "not valuable" Those that did, why did you? There is nothing there that could have been marked as such, solely opinions (and sarcasm at first) Do you find this valuable? |

"How does it fück up your posts? Does it increase load times or what?"On at least two or three occasions, I have been halfway through typing a post and then lost it after the script reloaded the page. I know I can probably disable that auto-reload in the settings, but to be honest, the script doesn't really do anything that I can't live without anyway, so why bother? To paraphrase what I said in Post 24, "I got along on the ZSDW just fine before this script cam along, and I'm sure that I will continue to get along just fine if I choose to do without it." "Doesn't the mod just automatically put different symbols in front and behind words? When people quote posts with the trick, and they themselves don't I often see </ then /> "You see those HTML Tags when you try to quote a reply using the HTML trick. HTML isn't supported in threads, so when you see it, they are either from one of the following: 1.) Spammers trying to redirect or post a picture in a thread. 2.) Quoting a reply for a post that has HTML in it. The user putting HTML Tags on a thread or a page does not make the site turn it into HTML, because that isn't how Wetpaint works. We have the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get), and cannot access HTML on the site without 'special means'. (i.e: The trick.) I am getting, or rather, trying to get Jeremy reply to one of my emails and tell me more about the trick, and to confirm whether it is against ToS. I'll post when I get a reply from him, but since Wetpaint keeps adding more and more to his work load, it might be a few days before I hear from him. Do you find this valuable? |

And until you get confirmation you can only "politely ask" that people not use it, whether or not they listen is their choice. Its not hurting anybody, so there really isn't anything wrong (MAYBE going against the ToS, but w.e)

"And until you get confirmation you can only "politely ask" that people not use it, whether or not they listen is their choice. Its not hurting anybody, so there really isn't anything wrong (MAYBE going against the ToS, but w.e)"Just remember that "maybe going against the TOS, but whatever" could be enough to get you banned from the site. Now with that said, I agree with you that those who want to should be allowed to use it, so the TOS should be altered accordingly. As for people posting porn pictures and whatnot, there's nothing to stop them from doing that now. I mean I could post a link and say ,"go here to see this awesome new gun I just bought", and you copy that link into your browser and it takes you to some freaky porn site. The damage is still done if it's somebody underage who follows that link, and the poster would then be in violation of the TOS and/or the COC anyway, and dealt with just as they'd be dealt with now. Unless and until such a change in the TOS happens, though, we are expected to abide by the letter of the law, as it were, and doing otherwise will probably just end up being more trouble than it's worth. "Just remember that "maybe going against the TOS, but whatever" could be enough to get you banned from the site.At this point I would not be banned, if in the future it is found to be in violation of the tos, and I merely said it, don't matter, if I USED it, I could be. Very true, but a lot of porn sites have their names in the URL, so unless the pic was uploaded onto a photo sharing site you could kinda tell whether or not it's a porn site (usually) Do you find this valuable? |

"Very true, but a lot of porn sites have their names in the URL, so unless the pic was uploaded onto a photo sharing site you could kinda tell whether or not it's a porn site (usually)"Yes, but if somebody was trying to Rick Roll the site with a porn pic, I'm sure they'd have it reposted from a photo sharing site or something. And remember also that if the WetPaint Management decided to ban you from the site for violations of the TOS, whether or not you HAD actually committed such a violation would be more or less irrelevant. All they have to do is DECIDE that you had, as it's their site, so their judgement and discretion is really all that counts. Now I'm not saying that the WetPaint Management should or would do this, but at this point Nero has plainly indicated that the script is a violation of the TOS as he understands them. If he is proven to be wrong later, then so be it, but if not then the WetPaint Management could claim that we were all duly informed, and chose to ignore that warning. That in and of itself could constitute a banning offense, given again that their judgement and discretion is really all that counts. Do you find this valuable? |

Naru2008, please send me, John234 and Marsden a PM with details if and when you get a response from Jeremy at Wetpaint, as this really isn't a matter for public recourse and debate. If y'all wanna talk about it amongst yourselves, go to the IRC channel or talk via PM. I'll be happy to participate if anyone would like, just send me a PM and I'll chat. However, as John has made evident, until we get clarification and specificity on the WP ToS, there's really no way we can justify prohibiting out community from using "The Trick" in our threads. I will say this - if anyone abuses it as we've outlined in our CoC, punishment to the offending party will be swift and permanent. I've outlined what I don't really wanna see on Page 2 of this discussion, and I'm confident our membership won't disappoint. Thanks guys! ~LJ126 5 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |
