Zombie-Proof???????????????
Feb 7 2012, 7:29 PM EST
So my friend owns over 30 guns (mostly handguns, shotguns, and rifles) and 5,000 rounds of ammunition total. He also has a large knife collection and several axes of multiple sizes. In addition, he has a really loud sound system which has forced him to sound-proof the entire house with lead. The windows are also sound-proof. the house is on the outer corner of a street that curves at a 90 degree angle. Anybody have suggestions for improving it as a post-apocalyptic hideout?

Is there a fence around the outside of his house? If so, what kind? How high? If not, that would be a good way of improving it!

well the ??????????????????????????????????? says it all.Lead doesnt sound proof. As a dense metal it is actually a very good sound conductor. So, since sound proofing appears to be something your friend values, I would suggest removing all that terribly expensive lead from the walls, floors and cielings. In its place add several layers of echo cells. They can be made from cardboard or even balsa. Of course the echo cells will remove quite a bit of the living space. He can recover the value of the lead by investing in reloading machines and dies. All the structural strengthening he did to support the weight of all that lead can be put to use supporting steel instead. Since money is obviously not an object, he could really increase the impregnability of his house by adding steel shutters. There are many mfrs of roll up style so the windows can be used when zombies are not around. A 12 ft tall woven wire fence would be a great addition. Oh wait, no need to worry about money, this guy can afford to lead clad his house. Forget the fencing, go with a block wall. Techo-Bloc and EP Henry both produce nicely decorative blocks and the outer surface can be nearly vertical. Rammed earth between the inner and outer layers will be needed of course. 5,000 rounds isn't that much, considering 30 guns. Buy more. Build a 12' steel reinforced concrete bastion surrounding the property with a guard tower overlooking the corner of the street. Top it with razor wire. Install perimeter flood lights to bathe the surrounding street in light for taking out targets... you can see them, they can't see you. Ensure the outside of the house is sprayed entirely with concrete fireproofing to prevent raiders with molotovs from ending your party. Build a crow's nest on the roof with sniper positions and a search light. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Going with the trend of suggestion's I'd also install perimeter camera's that are also connected to those floodlight that also have the ability for night vision. Inside close to your crows nest I would set up an observation post with screens easily able to monitor the camera's and stay in contact with the person in the sniper nest. Also with all this fortress building remember to have an emergency exit that is hidden somewhere. Do you find this valuable? |

Food, water, sewage, and medical supplies. You cannot eat bullets.Striker is correct you want as much depth in you defenses as you can get. Some power source also would be nice. Do you find this valuable? |

"Food, water, sewage, and medical supplies. You cannot eat bullets.Water, they can drill a well. Sewage, you can use a waste pump to force your poo down the line. Even if the sewer mains are blocked it will just bubble up in your neighbor's house :D And food... head over to Cheaperthandirt.com and get as many of those premium all-flavors MREs as you can afford. Definitely need solar panels on the roof, a battery bank in the basement, and a backup multifuel generator for times of heavy usage (all floodlights on during a raid, for example). Get a sh!t ton of solar panels for the roof so you can power stuff. Try putting those brackets on the frames of the door so you can just put up a 2x12 and have it cross the door. MRE'S KID! More ammunition Extra parts for weapons, just random and receiver parts for semi-autos A fence Get a well with manual pump And that sewage pump thing StrykerPez talked about And just get random survival supplies, you can never have enough... ""premium all-flavors MREs as you can afford."Use money saved from poo pump and buy...wait...nevermind because your buddy can obviously afford to buy that and an APC with a robotic Mk 19 grenade launcher which I think he should "just in case". Do you find this valuable? |

"And a 20 ton steel blast door on hydraulic hinges for the wall to park the APC inside. "Add three or four basement floors, EMP sheilding on EVERYTHING and a fully automatic reloading station. Think we just answered that question on where the ZSDW HQ is going to be lol. Do you find this valuable? |

First, get proof and 100% out of your mindset. Because other than death and currently taxes, nothing is 100%. Zombie resistant is the proper thinking so you are not surprised if your mitigations fail. Given that, have a bug out plan for your BOL.Is the current hideout in a large metropolitan area? If so, he either needs to get out of the city or he needs to make the hideout inconspicuous. Where will he be getting his food and water? As for sewage, you can always compost it and/or use it to produce methane with a methane digester. Depending on how the basement is built, that may be adequate enough for EMP protection. As for the Robotic MK19 - I rather have twin 30mm GE Avengers because a misfired MK19 can by hairy especially with an over zealous robot that does not have proper clearing techniques in their programming... ;-) Do you find this valuable? |

"As for the Robotic MK19 - I rather have twin 30mm GE Avengers"Why stop at two? I think that the best thing to do now would be to install a rousse tower on every corner of an 800m wide curtain wall, and arm each tower with multiple 105mm howitzers aligned for direct fire against anything that apporaches. They could all have their own EMP-proofing, and have autoloaders suppplied from a central magazine in the 3rd basement level, with robotic APcs to haul munitions down the suppply tunnels to the towers. And only one APC? What is he thinking? Everyone knows that the effectiveness of a tank is proportional to the square of their numbers, so investing in more APCs with big guns seems the only sensible thing to do now. I am sort of thinking that what we have described here is what FPSRussia's house looks like. Do you find this valuable? |

you guys play too much Call of Duty......WELL WHAT IF HE IS A POOR GUY.....???? he must save money for food and water.....!!!!not wasting money on these APC's and EMP proof and bla b la blah....the simpliest and most cheap thing to do is to just buy bullets....melee weapons and some types of guns...simple and effective...then try to find more trusted friends that could join up.....an emergency place....and as i said the rest of the money must be spend on water and food...
