Where did my edit go?
Feb 9 2012, 12:43 PM EST | Post edited: Feb 9 2012, 12:43 PM EST
Um... I did a rewrite of this page back in August of 2010. As quoted from my edit thread, I included, "a new section on the Ferro Rods suggested in the previous thread, but also sections on other commercial emergency fire starters and several "bush craft" style fire starters, such as magnifying lenses, bow drills, hand drills, push plows and any other methods that I can dig up."

Now all that information is gone. What happened to it?

According to the edit log, you have never worked on this page:

I'm lost. Any ideas?

EDIT: Virtually same post as Stryker's. Added note, maybe WK worked on a different page. Do you find this valuable?

Maybe a server hiccup? That's happened before. Do you find this valuable?

"Maybe a server hiccup? That's happened before."
Yeah, but not in a way that would remove data from the page edit history. This would be the first time that a page has done that in those circumstances.

From this happening to me when posting on facebook, this I what I reckon. Probably wrong, but even so...
If you have 2 duplicate pages open in seperate tabs, and are editing one, the other page will not show the edit. If you then close the edited tab, you can lose all of your work. This would explain the editing log not showing that you edited it.

WK, unless you did it under a different account name, there's no record in your page contributions that indicates that you did a re-write of this article. I just looked through your account page edits for all of August 2010 and there's nothing there but profile edits, a T-shirt contest contribution and a single image added to "Pre-made forts."

(You'll nee to go back and forward from the page selected to see the rest of the month, but all that's there are profile edits.)

Well bloody hell.

I know I DID do an edit to the page, I worked on it for about three days. I have no idea why it wouldn't be showing up anywhere. Too bad I didn't keep a copy of it.

So should I give it another go and do it over again?

Absolutely, I'm looking forward to your additions. I've been thinking "fire making" stuff all day today. =) Do you find this valuable?

WK, perhaps you edited another page that got renamed?

Nope. I had this page bookmarked and everything. Came to this one, clicked edit on this one, clicked save on this one, then... Poof... apparently it all disappeared. As I just said to LJ, though, I'll try to repost it sometime over the next couple days.

This is strange.

There's no way to modify the edit log is there?

Considering how cruddy wetpaint's servers have been, it could have gotten lost when you saved it, perhaps.

Is it possible that the edit was done/saved while the server was moving the page?

"Latest page update: made by Zee-Man
, Yesterday, 4:21 PM EST" was about the time it got moved.

Yeah, that's pretty much the way I'm leaning.

@ Zee-Man: Nope, you're innocent in all this, dude. This edit was done over a year ago.

Just a quick update: As some of you may have noticed, I started to rewrite my previous edit a couple of days ago, but it is obviously still a work in progress. Since then, some other commitments on my time have prevented me from completing the project, but I'll finish it up sometime over the next couple of days. Thank you for your patience.
