I would like to keep up with this page. If you have additional firelay ideas, but are not a Writer yet, please PM me and I will add it to the page. Writers, of course, should just add their examples into the page. Do you find this valuable?

I have to admit, the Swedish torch has really caught my attention. I had never heard of it before. I've since found a mess of vids on Youtube, what a delightful way to conserve wood AND enjoy a lovely fire. Not to mention, how handy it will be while bugging out! I'm going to try this out first chance I get! Do you find this valuable?

The Swedish torch is one that I learned as a boyscout. We called it a Swedish furnace though. Ive always enjoyed it, though there has seldom been any large logs to use. In boyscouts instead of using a chainsaw to cut ears, we used three logs set upright and together to form the chimney.

I was enthused to see the one YT where the guy used 2-4 inch diameter firewood bundled together to make his torch. This makes the firelay much easier to come by. The wire I keep in my BOB for snares can also be used for bundling.

Nice, Zee! I saw that one too. Swedish torch, my version; wasn't it? I liked the way he used a short "log" for the center and used it as platform for his kindling. I even forgive for using a cheater for tinder - I never would have gotten a fire without one under those conditions. Well, maybe...but it would have taken forever to feather enough fuzz sticks to ignite that wood! I was just thinking that MY snare wire would make good bundling, too. Jeez, I guess great minds slide the same sewers, er, follow the same channels. lol II think I'm going to double the amount of wire I carry, tho.
