Search revealed tons of hits for MREs. This page seemed to be the best place to put thisDehydrated foods AKA Freeze dried are, to me, a class of MRE. They do need to be re-hydrated, but they are ready in short order. here is a useful link to a "Survival Food" supply house, where you can get a free sample. http://www.myfoodstorage.com/request-a-sample-pouch I would be interested in knowing other sources. If there are enough responses Ill put up a page. Do you find this valuable? |

I bought a skid of Mountain House freeze dried meals last spring at a sporting goods store that was closing for $1/meal (dirt cheap). I gave 14 cases to the Homer Boy Scouts (where I was a scout), and 15 cases to the Hillsdale Scouts (my nephews are scouts there), and I kept 15 cases of double meals for my own stash. I was surprised that they were less than 6 months old, so there good for a least along time. I like to take them when I go camping. I also like to dehydrate fresh fruit and jerky. I have two electric dehydrators and use them at least every two weeks for something. Next summer I am going to attempt to build a fire pit dehydrator box from scratch, just so I know how. "Next summer I am going to attempt to build a fire pit dehydrator box from scratch, just so I know how. "When you do, please take pains to draw your designs and record the experience. This would be a great addition to the Fireplaces page I will be writing soon. Do you find this valuable? |

Hanging food on racks around the fireplace was the way grandma used to dehydrate apple, snap peas, potatos, etc. She would actually sow the snap peas (green beans) with needly and thread then hang them from the nails in the mantle. Sun drying also works well, particularly if you have a child or an old person to fan them (speeds drying and keeps the flies away). Still, pre-apoc, I still rock the electric dehydrator. I will probably use electric dehydrators after the apocalypse, thanks to the 3 small wind turbines I ordered and will be installed next summer, along with 6 solar panels that are getting mounted on the side of my pole barn. @ Zee-Man, I was thinking about taking step by step photos and posting them. Of course that means I will have to get a digital camera (Ha, Ha, damn I'm old and out of date). 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
