Well 4am i stumble on this thread

Frount door is mostly glass so retreat out of den and shut solid door to kitchen. Old farmhouse. Wake up wife as i pull out. 38 allready loaded. Make sure she snags the BOB s and the ammo bag. Clear up the house if its only a few.
put bags on den and bored up the door till morning makeing sure to scan news and place a call to 911 live in a very small town so hope the few that showed up are just a few scragalers.
I left the lights on in the barn so haveing light as i pull in the generator and some tools will be nice back up jeep to frunt door faceing out so if we have to leave quick we can.
call friends and stage a BOL with info given to us by news or some coverage.

well, I'm in my room, upstairs, so if they're scratching at my door I can assume my family is dead and our plan is screwed, seeing as it relies on us having at least as long as it takes for the zombies to walk up the drive and break through the two heavy solid wood doors at the front.

Note: I may have other thought this, seeing as it is going to take two posts...

Got a fair bit of time, because my door is an old wooden board door, so I would look out the window and see how many are out the back, if there's not many then:

1. Gather stuff into B.O.B, grab billhook pole-arm and butchers cleaver, strap pole-arm to back and go out through the window (fully opening windows, at floor level of the room) onto the conservatory.
2. Then get down to the raised patio, over wall onto next-doors conservatory, run across top and jump into field,
3. Flee up the field towards the windmill and house at the top of the hill, hopefully unseen, knock at house and see if people are still there, if so seek refuse and talk to them about a plan. If not, do very quick knock and clear to see if there are zombies, then get to windmill.
4. Roll old grindstone that is inside by the door across the door (very small door, only room for one at a time, and the grindstone is very heavy, I'm pretty sure i could roll it though)
5. Go up onto the balcony and destroy the stairs up. (balcony is 8 foot above ground, I can jump and pull myself up, but no zombies can)
6. Survive

"Continued....."
If outside is swarming then:

1. Draw curtains
2. Pack B.O.B
3. Use katana (yes, I know, I got them as a present, so sue me) as it is the only thing thin enough to slot between the boards on my door, and stab at the zombies out side. Yes the point is sharpened, and I've tried is on melons, it stabs pretty well.
4. Once zombies are cleared, check if any more are upstairs, clear them out using cleaver or short dagger (again a present, same person)
5. Draw all curtains, turn off all lights, fill sink and bath with water, and break out the emergency supplies.
6. Take chair and place at top of stairs, stand besides it and wait to see if any more zombies come up if I make a loudish noise
7. If so kill them, if not move on to downstairs and see what's what, bolt all doors and take supplies upstairs
8. Put step ladder up ready to head to attic, but try and hold the whole house if I can
9. Pray for people (that arnt raiders) to come

"So...Zombies at the door, go!"
Presuming that it's only one or two zombies, I would grab my Cold Steel Shillelagh (which is always within arms length near my computer) and brain those, then secure whatever door they entered the house through. After that I'd get my Bug Out Bag from the basement, and gather up whatever other equipment and supplies I had time to collect.

My next step would depend on whether The Panic had already started. If so, I'd secure all the ground level doors and windows in my home and try to sit tight for a week or three until things slowed down a little, then I'd get my family the hell out of dodge. If I figured I had a realistic chance to beat The Panic, however, I'd skip the securing the house bit and proceed directly to getting my family the hell out of dodge.

okay, so seeing as my plan is to bug in, if zombies are upstairs and breaking down the door i'm ******, and have to bug out. sad face all round.

i'm in my brothers room on his computer, so i would slide his big dresser over to block the door and gain some time. after a quick sweep of the room i just did i found a decorative knife (sh1+), a waterbottle and a camelbak/bag combo. i'd empty the water into the camelbak and put the knife in my pocket.

Next, i'd open the window and jump to the garage roof, a two metre jump (a storey up, but i do parkour and stuff like this all the time) and climb my way down into my backyard. from here i have two options . . . (depending on the number of zombies in my house)

1) try sneak into the garage, take some of my dad's camping supplies, food, tools etc and make a makeshift bob and leave.

2) sneak into my room, downstairs, and get my actual bob, and go unlock the gun safe, grab a shotgun and all the slugs i can ditch into a pack, and then sneak back out and run away.

2 meter jump
Do you do that a lot?
I used to parkour when I was younger, but now I'm old
:-( I still can leap from my house onto the ground 2.3m without snapping my shins

I love my shillelagh, even if only because I get to go around saying "shillelagh". Aside from it's use as a weapon, it's just a fun word to say.

My fondest wish... one that I haven't quite mustered the courage to fulfill yet... is to carry it into a bar on St Paddy's Day, as a walking stick of course, solely so that I can walk up to some hot chick and say, "Hey, do you wanna see my Shillelagh?"

Then, if she get's offended, I can just say, "No, no, no! I just meant my walking stick!"

Worst case scenario, I figure I'll be able to use it as a defensive weapon if her boyfriend tries to kick my ass. LOL

In my room currently.

I'm in luck. If I have time, I can grab my Mak and Glock out of the safe and slip my gear on very quickly. If I don't have time, I can use my Tomahawk.

I can bail out the window if necessary.
EDIT. I have my BOB and some other stuff in my closet =).

I'm currently in my bedroom. With my BOB, sword and knives.
If Zs were at my bedroom door, I'd don my dressing gown to protect from bites, and grab my sword. Having family and pets in the house, trying to hold up in my room is not an option.
Having (hopefully) dispatched zombies, I'd get my family, pets and gear out ASAP, and head to my brother's house just up the road to check on his tribe. If phones are still working I'd ring the rest of my family in short order. The family in town average 4 miles away, so if I couldn't contact them I'd get there any way I could.
Ultimate goal would be to hold up in my house, as it's biggest, on the edge of town, probably easiest to defend and has supplies and weapons.

@MrK9114 - 2 metres isn't a great height to fall from if you know how to land. We were taught how to land safely quite thoroughly in Physical Education in school.

My BOB is not in my bedroom. It should be, because that's where I spend 90% of my time when I'm at home, but there's just no space in here for my BOB to live (my bedroom is fairly small and lacks adequate closet space).

As for bailing out a window, I just had to look out my window to see if it was feasible, and it's not too bad height-wise (about 8-10 ft, doable if you land right as Mark said), but there's some debris below the window that I'd have to make sure to clear on the way down to avoid breaking my ankles and probably my neck.

I could bail out my bedroom window quite easily, as it has a sloping roof just outside, so I'd only have to jump from a height not much more than the ground floor ceiling. Do you find this valuable?

So here I am imagining everyone jumping out their windows, out of their trees, and off their roofs. I am certain I could jump off a first storey roof if I had to but I don't want to try it. 2.6 to 3 meters (8 to 9 feet) doesn't seem like much but it could do a world of hurt. This is not a risk I want to run in a regular world, let alone one with zeds trying to eat my face.

So, all you guys with zombies at the door making you want to jump out the window lets do another thread Escaping from a Height

Oh I quite agree. Bailing out a window is hardly my Plan A, in fact it isn't really my Plan B, C or any other letter. I'm just saying that if zombies were at this particular door, and I were in this particular room, I'd have no other choice. If there were enough of them that I couldn't fight them off, the window would be my only option.

Now that said, even keeping some decent rope, which I already have anyway, in this room would simplify things considerably
