I think lasers on the little pocket pistols they make these days would be a very good idea. They have crap iron sights on those things and you wouldn't even have to get the pistol up into firing position. Not a bad little gadget IMO. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"Yeah I know, but for distracting zeds or replacing the sights (in use maybe, not physically removing the sights in place of a laser) I think they'd be less than useless"For distracting zeds, absolutely, and likely for replacing sights outright as well, but as an extra tool IN ADDITION TO the existing sights they would still be worth having. And BTW, what is a GutteSnipe? I googled it but didn't come up with anything. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Explanation here: http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg/usa/asp-e.html From WIki: was a narrowing U-channel with fluorescent yellow panels that would form three triangles, all pointed at the target when the sight was properly aligned 1 out of 1 found this valuable. "the red lasers are the ones they give to stormtroopers, they're not very accurate."Ok, I watched Star Wars 2 (that was actually the 5th one to be made) and now I got the joke. They can't hit an elephant in a corridor with those things! Do you find this valuable? |

So funny story from one of my classes. We are extensively studying laser welding and cutting this semester. Modern industrial robots are frequently being mounted to robot arms. The laser we use in our laboratory is a 4kW the beam diameter before it is focused down through the optics system is referred to as the raw beam diameter. Even before being focused the beam is still dangerous. So our professor is telling us this story. A large company (which will remain nameless) was looking at implementing a 10kW laser. They had a separate building set up with the laser connected to a robot. One side of the building had a garage door which happened to be open. One of the engineers noticed some crows sitting on a power line. The laser had a secondary low power beam that was used for targeting, so they got the bright idea to aim the robot at the crows and fire a pulse from the raw beam. The crow vaporized. Moral of the story is, no matter how much education a redneck receives, he is still a redneck deep down. Do you find this valuable? |

"Moral of the story is, no matter how much education a redneck receives, he is still a redneck deep down."LOL - I can TOTALLY agree with this. I grew up in banjo country, and I am proud to be a redneck myself, but I can honestly say that lack of education alone does not a redneck make, but nor does a plethora of education take the redneck-edness away. I know some very well schooled rednecks, but they are still rednecks just the same. For instance, there is a guy in my home town who has not one but two university degrees (one in agriculture and one in business). He has been known to do some pretty dumb things, and not just once in a while but all the time. He has frequently driven to the station to get gas, walked into the store to pay for said gas then come out and WALKED HOME, LEAVING HIS TRUCK BEHIND, having forgotten that he drove to the station in the first place. He has also driven forty five miles with his wife into town to get supplies, dropped his wife off at the grocery store while he went to some other store, then forgotten to pick her up and driven forty five miles back home without her.
