"A key to my front door, sounds average yes, but its as powerful as a picture of family, something you have the possibility of returning to someday, no matter how slim the chance."
Wow. Nice thinking. That's actually pretty powerful and moving.

my firestarter kit has a big ziploc smashed full of dryer link to use as a starter material.

i have inflatable casts and a couple of immobilization braces for joints as well. only handy if you understand how to aply them properly though. the loss of circulation caused by imprpoperly using a brace can cause deadly isde effects.

i keep a few empty plastic mayo jars in my kit. acts as bouyies as well as being extra storage if i need to keep something i find.

two jars of toothpicks. cleaning teeth, starting fires, making small game traps, so on.

lowery's seasoning salt. works great on the fire, for seasoning food or to assist stating a fire in hurry.

10' x 10' sheet of camo netting, rolled up, on top of my pack.

large box of arm-n-hammer baking soda in a ziplock. pull it out and set it next to campfire. have in on hand to smother out accidental fires while cooking, soak up grease for easier clean up, or use it to douse your cook fire in a hurry

camo compact with the usual green/brown/black grease paints

elk hide mocassins, they are good camp shoes, quiet, and can be worn in all terrains for extended times. it's just a lot harder on the feet , ankles, and calves than good boots.

bottle of Alieve-the new light fighter candy of choice!

my b.o.b. strategy is escape and evasion to get to where i need to be, it is set up for a 5 day operation, so much of it is about staying warm, dry, fed, and moving unobserved

I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I have spare springs and a pre-fitted spare extractor for my 1911. A slide stop and bushing too. And magazine springs. Maybe unnecessary, but I like my 1911 better than my backup sidearm, so I make sure I have what I need to keep it in service. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

I keep a mechanic's mirror in my BOB.

Handy for any repairs on a vehicle and can also be used to see what's going on around corners and other obstacles without sticking your head out. Inexpensive, small and light.

you can also make or use a simple periscope. a periscope can offer magnification, a broader field of view than a mirror, and can use shades and shutters to limit glare.
it allows you to not expose your hands as mush when using it also.

you can get an Uzi 5x sportscope periscope from amazon for like $50.

"lowery's seasoning salt. works great on the fire, for seasoning food or to assist stating a fire in hurry. "
How do you use this? I tried to ignite a teaspoon full of it with barely any combustion. I poured some over/past my lighter with barely a spark. I light a few stick matches and shook it over them, it smothered them. I Turned my electric stove burner on high, and shook some over it finally getting some flash.

What do you do differently to use Lowry's Seasoned Salt as a fire starter?

I think the pencil sharpener may originally have been mine, but there's some great ideas on this thread too. Good job, Anomoly. Do you find this valuable?

I'm capable of that sometimes haha, people need something to look forward to or they are not motivated to continue to live.

@Survivor98- Helmet mounted camera? like a ski cam, or some heavy tripod wielding thing? lol

I like the idea of the ski cam, but who would watch it? Anybody who was left alive would have lived through it themselves and would thus have no need to relive it by watching the footage.

And besides, once the grid fails, and the TVs and computers and DVD Players and whatnot no longer work, how would you watch it anyway?

VIdeo Cam. Nice idea. Not all disasters will be apocalyptic. I often pack a camera myself. I've been thinking of getting a Contour, but it is cost prohibitive for now.

Were there to be a Zpoc then so long as you have a playback device, video documentation could be helpful in studying many things just for your own group.

Something I was thinking about yesterday is fishing gear. For a very low cost I have added a few items that could provide a good source of protein and do so without making noise.

Being a fan of catfish fishing, I went that route with some other various tackle for whatever will bite.

My stainless steel Katana; its made somewhere in Asia so it's gotta be good, right? Ninja are from Asia!

Hollow Rambo survival knife, also stainless steel (you know, rust, duh!)

Desert Eagle .50AE (.44 Mag and .357 Mag are for PUSS!ES)

And a 2L of the Walmart Mountain Dew knockoff (Mountain Lightning?) for my hydration pack! It won't attract bees, you guys are so crazy!

Hey, no video cameras, that's my niche. My BOL is my job a video production house, I'm suppose to be one goin' all diary of the dead on this. Actually, I keep my personal video camera in my car just in case something big happens.

If I could find a vest with a camera mounting rig, I may do that. Even in an apocalyptic disaster, it never hurts to have some sort of record on what happened.

The video camera is a good idea. But remember, if recovery comes there will likely be judgements made by people sitting in comfortable surroundings. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Buy yourself a half dozen of these and you won't be sorry. For less than 3 bucks a piece you can't go wrong.

Everyone has heard me mention these a dozen times so I here I go again.

Fisherman's Yo-Yo for fish and rat traps for small game. Two of the cheapest protein getters money can buy. Nail your rat trap to a tree, smear on some peanut butter on the trigger and you'll find breakfast hanging from a tree the next morning. The FYY will hook 'em and real 'em in for you, doesn't get any better than that. Best of all? They work.

So this is spring loaded and reels itself in, sort of like a measuring tape?

BRILLIANT!

I already have a couple of rat traps, but this yo-yo fishing reel is new to me. I'll have to see if I can find them locally, because if I order them online I pay almost twice as much for the shipping as I do for the fishing reel.

Helmet Cam mounting rigs come separate from the helmet, you can find em in board sport stores, Billabong, Zumiez, they will work just as well with jackets with a few custom alterations, shouldnt be too difficult.
