First of all, welcome to the site.

My personal opinion is that bows and crossbows while having a place in a good survival scheme are generally way to slow for dispatching more than singular zombies at a fairly close distance.
Bows themselves being faster and lighter than crossbows, being the better choice. However need a fairly high level of training.
A good quality crossbows have a general advantage over a bow however usually is very slow to reload and fire

Both would make excellent additions to a BOL location for small game getting.

thanks i appriciate the imput

my theory is that if there were a single threat and a melee kill were impossible and a kill with say a rifle would kill it but attract more then then the bow would bridge the gap and achive the goal of eliminating the threat

I would agree for the most part with OutlawJames, primitive bows are good for hunting small and larger game and in the right hands would be quite deadly against Zed's and Raiders alike, a compound bow would increase your range and the ability to take larger game but both take a lot of skill and patience to master, a crossbow on the other hand is essentially a quiet rifle but a slow weapon for repeat fire in a combat situation, IMO any of these make a good 1st strike weapon whether offensively or defensively but are not good long term engagement weapons 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Remember that a crossbow is quiet like a hand clap is quiet. 1  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?
